Condo MW in Mexico

Apartment by Mueblería Standard in Mexico City, MX

After living in a house we designed for them 23 years ago, with a strong neoclassical feel, our clients moved to a new Condo.

Their request was out with old, in with the new! They wanted a completely different style for their new home.

We settled with a contemporary design in a palette of neutrals, mostly grays.

The layout we designed is an open floorplan. It is a space where they can entertain up to a hundred people, but also live day by day in a warm inviting space.

The biggest challenge was the floors and the millwork. The wife did not want anything brown in her new Condo. We had hardwood floors costumed made in gray (very difficult to obtain) and for the millwork we used a gray Italian veneer. We also lacquered some of the surfaces.

Since it is such a monochromatic design, we used many textures like raffia in the bedroom walls, suede in the bench, mohair, silk and velvet in the sofas, and mirror and acrylic in the tables.

All the walls in the Condo are wallpapered. In the fireplace we used a honed dark granite.

When I found out that the client was going to give away her old dining chairs, I asked her to give them to me. Immediately she reacted and asked what could be done to modernize them.

We took away the gold and the carvings and lacquered them in black. They became the perfect contrast for the contemporary space.
