Modern Retreat in Aspen

Country House by Kerry Joyce Associates, Inc. in Aspen, CO

When we began, the primary instruction from the client was simply to exploit the views. Nestled in a large field with mountains rising in the distance, the 77-acre property provides the family with solitude while allowing their three athletic sons the chance indulge to two ponds, one reserved for hockey throughout the winter. The home itself is oriented to take advantage of the exterior by aligning the rooms to the outdoors. Japanese influenced style, not completely expected of a modern Aspen home, paired well with materials like wall to ceiling poplar wood. The horizonal V-groove paneling of a lighter wood allowed the light to carry further into each space and fill every corner. This distribution of light allows for the minimal application of color to express itself with inherent warmth and softness when present.
