How Much is a The One Ring?
Finding the Right Rings for You
Antique and vintage rings have long held a special place in the hearts of fine jewelry lovers all over the world.
No matter their origin or specific characteristics, rings are timeless, versatile accessories. They’ve carried deep meaning since at least the Middle Ages, when diamond rings symbolized strength and other kinds of rings were worn to signify romantic feelings or to denote an affiliation with a religious order. Rings have also forever been emblematic of eternity.
Over time, rings have frequently taken the form of serpents, which have long been associated with eternal life, health and renewal. Italian luxury jewelry house Bulgari has become famous for its widely loved Serpenti motif, for example, and its Serpenti ring, like the other accessories in the collection, began as an homage to jewelry of the Roman and Hellenistic eras. The serpent is now a popular motif in fine jewelry. Jewelry devotees have long pined for rings adorned with reptiles, thanks to antique Victorian rings — well, specifically, Queen Victoria’s illustrious engagement ring, which took the form of a gold snake set with rubies, diamonds and an emerald (her birthstone). Designs for Victorian-era engagement rings often featured repoussé work and chasing, in which patterns are hammered into the metal.
Engagement rings, which are reliably intimidating to shop for, are still widely recognized as symbols of love and commitment. On 1stDibs, a range of buying guides can be found for those in the market for antique engagement rings, vintage engagement rings or Art Deco engagement rings.
The most collectible antique engagement rings and vintage engagement rings are those from the Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco eras. Named for the monarchies of the four King Georges, who in succession ruled England starting in 1714 (plus King William’s reign), antique Georgian rings, be they engagement rings or otherwise, are also coveted by collectors. Pearls, along with colored gemstones like garnets, rubies and sapphires, were widely used in Georgian jewelry. The late-1700s paste jewelry was a predecessor to what we now call fashion or costume jewelry.
The Art Nouveau movement (1880–1910) brought with it rings inspired by the natural world. Antique Art Nouveau rings might feature depictions of winged insects and fauna as well as women, who were simultaneously eroticized and romanticized, frequently with long flowing hair. Art Deco jewelry, on the other hand, which originated during the 1920s and ’30s, is by and large “white jewelry.” White metals, primarily platinum, were favored over yellow gold in the design of antique Art Deco rings and other accessories as well as geometric motifs, with women drawn to the era’s dazzling cocktail rings in particular.
Whether you’re hunting down a chunky classic for a Prohibition-themed cocktail party or seeking a clean contemporary design to complement your casual ensemble, find an exquisite collection of antique, new and vintage rings on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertMarch 22, 2022Whether or not Neil Lane can make one of its silver rings gold or not depends on the piece. - 1stDibs ExpertApril 11, 2024A one-person couch is typically called an armchair.
The sofa is typically defined as a long upholstered piece of seating that features a back and arms and is intended for two or more people. While the term “couch” comes from the Old French couche, meaning to lie down, and sofa has Eastern origins, both are forms of divan, a Turkish word that means an elongated cushioned seat. No matter how you spell it, sofa just means comfort, at least it does today.
Armchairs are among the types of chairs you should know when decorating your home. Most living rooms include at least one armchair. Typically upholstered and including comfortable armrests, armchairs vary by size, style and color, allowing you to use them to make a statement, focus on comfort or show off your personality.
Find a collection of vintage armchairs on 1stDibs. - 1stDibs ExpertSeptember 25, 2019
Generally, a portrait depicts one subject, but group portraits exist.
- 1stDibs ExpertApril 22, 2024A one-person sofa is called an accent chair. Less commonly, people may refer to it as a single-seater sofa. Accent chairs come in a wide variety of styles, but they typically feature upholstered backrests and seats like a sofa. On 1stDibs, find a wide variety of antique, vintage and contemporary accent chairs.
- 1stDibs ExpertApril 16, 2024A one-piece chair is typically called a monobloc chair. The term typically refers to chairs crafted out of a single piece of a synthetic material, such as resin or polyethylene. In most cases, monobloc chairs are lightweight and stackable. On 1stDibs, find a diverse assortment of antique, vintage and contemporary chairs.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 8, 2023Yes, it's okay to have just one accent chair. There are no rules when decorating a living room, so you're free to place one accent chair along with a loveseat and/or sofa in your seating area. When choosing your living room furniture, consider how much space you have and how many people will typically be sitting in the room at one time. Use this information as a guide. On 1stDibs, find a large selection of accent chairs.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 27, 2023Most vintage earrings are clip-ons largely due to how beliefs about piercings have changed over the years. It was only during the 1980s and ’90s that many women began piercing their ears. Prior to that, many women didn't have piercings and could only wear clip-ons, so makers produced earrings to suit their customer base. On 1stDibs, find a wide range of vintage earrings.
- 1stDibs ExpertJanuary 23, 2024Whether you need one or two accent chairs depends on your personal preferences and the space. First, consider the layout of your room. In a small space, two accent chairs may make a seating area feel cramped, while having just one may result in a larger room feeling too empty. Also, think about how many people you're likely to entertain in your seating area and what other furniture is present in the space. If you frequently need additional seating to accommodate large groups, you may want to purchase a second accent chair. Find a wide range of accent chairs on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 22, 2021Yes, yellow diamonds are typically more expensive than white ones. While a 0.7 carat white diamond costs around $1,500, a 0.7 carat yellow diamond will usually cost $6,500.

You could opt to wear a solitaire diamond ring to symbolize your wedding vows or a band ring that features multiple diamonds, such as an eternity band that shows diamonds all the way around its surface. Find a large selection of diamond wedding rings on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 27, 2023Yes, a solitaire ring can be a wedding ring. Some men choose to wear a ring set with a single gemstone, like a diamond or a sapphire, to symbolize their wedding vows. Women may also opt for solitaire rings. However, it can be difficult to wear a solitaire ring with an engagement ring. You can address this challenge by wearing your wedding ring on your left hand and your engagement ring on your right hand. On 1stDibs, shop a wide variety of wedding rings.

Your wedding jewelry should reflect your taste and style, so you're free to choose any type of ring you desire. One option is to wear a diamond solitaire as a wedding ring.
