By Mona Kuhn

Located in San Francisco, CA

In the series 'She Disappeared into Complete Silence' (2014) Mona Kuhn takes a new direction into abstraction. She turns to a highly austere and restrained reductionist geometry and distilled formal purity, connecting the interior to the exterior, the visible to the hidden. These reflections cause one to linger, as they merge to create a dynamic equilibrium of tension, spaces and rythms. AD6387 (She Disappeared into Complete Silence) 60" x 45" / 152cm x 114cm edition of 8 + 2AP 40" x 30" / 102cm x 76cm edition of 8 + 2AP limited edition photograph is printed under artist supervision and accompanied by signed artist certificate: artist signature labels are 8x10 in size signed, editioned, dated and titled by the artist, and stamped for authenticity label __________________ About the artist Acclaimed for her contemporary depictions, Kuhn is considered a leading artist in the world of figurative discourse. Throughout a career spanning more than twenty years, the underlying theme of her work is her reflection on humanity’s longing for spiritual connection and solidarity. As she solidified her photographic style, Kuhn created a notable approach to the nude by developing friendships with her subjects, and employing a range of playful visual strategies that use natural light and minimalist settings to evoke a sublime sense of comfort between the human figure and its environment. Her work is natural, restful, and a reinterpretation of the nude in the canon of contemporary art. For the past two decades, the Los-Angeles based artist's works have been shown steadily, revealing an astonishing consistency in technique, of subject and of purpose. In 2001, Kuhn’s photographs were first seen by an influential audience during the exhibition at Charles Cowles Gallery in Chelsea, New York. Kuhn’s distinct aesthetic has propelled her as one of the most collectible contemporary art photographers—her work is in private and public collections worldwide and she is represented by galleries across the United States, Europe and Asia. Kuhn was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1969, of German descent. In 1989, Kuhn moved to the US and earned her BA from The Ohio State University, before furthering her studies at the San Francisco Art Institute. She is currently an independent scholar at The Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles. Occasionally, Mona teaches at UCLA and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Mona Kuhn’s first monograph, Photographs, was debuted by Steidl in 2004; followed by Evidence (2007), Native (2010), Bordeaux Series (2011), Private (2014), and She Disappeared into Complete Silence (2018/19). In addition, Stanley/Barker Editions published Kuhn's Bushes and Succulents (2018) with a debut at Musee Jeu de Paume in Paris in 2019. Thames & Hudson published a career retrospective titled Works. Kuhn's most recent publication Kings Road with Steidl accompanies a multi-dimensional museum exhibition in Germany and the US. Mona Kuhn’s work is in private and public collections worldwide, including The J. Paul Getty Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Hammer Museum, the Perez Art Museum in Miami, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Kiyosato Museum in Japan. Kuhn's work has been exhibited at The Louvre Museum and Le Bal in Paris, The Whitechapel Gallery and Royal Academy of Arts in London, Musée de l’Elysée in Switzerland, Leopold Museum in Vienna Austria, The Polygon Gallery in Vancouver Canada, Australian Centre for Photography and Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Taiwan. Mona Kuhn currently lives and works in Los Angeles. __________________ Solo Exhibitions 2024 Mona Kuhn: Between Modernism and Surrealism, Houk Gallery, New York, NY 2023 Mona Kuhn: Kings Road, Galerie XII, Paris, France Mona Kuhn: Kings Road, Kunsthaus-Göttingen, Germany Mona Kuhn: Kings Road, Jackson Fine Art...

With a camera in hand and a heart attuned to the rhythms of the natural world, Cara Esten Hurtle emerges as a visionary artist whose work transcends conventional boundaries. Hurtle's journey into photography began as a means of personal exploration, a way to connect with the beauty and wonder that surrounds us. Drawing inspiration from the landscapes of her native Canada and the diverse cultures she has encountered in her travels, she weaves together a tapestry of images that speak to the soul. As a self-taught photographer, Hurtle's approach is deeply intuitive, guided by a profound reverence for the natural world and a desire to capture its essence in all its complexity. Whether she is exploring the rugged coastlines of...

Hand-coloured Print of weeping mythical sculpture angels in Walnut Frame

Located in London, GB

Hand-coloured tableau of a weeping spirit and her guardians, immobilised in marble. A disjointed narrative looking at recovery and protection, the angels shield the spirit with tender embraces and cry for her when alone. Taken from The Sialia Marbles, a series of portraits containing ephemeral human sculptures taken between 2016-19. Together these works act as tales contained in a fictional sculpture hall, in direct reaction to Andre Malraux’s 1947 Le Musee Imaginaire (Museum Without Walls). During the beginning of the 'Museum Age' in the 18th century , writer Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe discussed mythical...

Man in makeup - 70s Nightclubs of Chicago South Side -Framed Vintage Photograph

Located in London, GB

“I walked into a timeless place … full of supporting actors and actresses of every conceivable role,” Abramson wrote in Light: On the South Side, published by Chicago’s Numero Group in 2009. “Brassai, who photographed nocturnal Paris around 1930, had always been one of my favourite. Having seen, his pictures and, later, read about his experiences, I was fascinated by the implied romance with which he viewed his photography. (…) When I photographed on the South Side, especially in Peppers Hideout, it was very much in recognition of a Brassai–type world. Whether it be ambiance, gestures, or dress, there seemed to be a direct correlation with the Parisian bistros and dance halls that Brassai had photographed.” - Michael Abramson, “Black Night Clubs of Chicago’s South Side”, May 1977. Print details: © Michael L Abramson, Untitled #112, CA. 1974 -1977 Vintage Gelatin Silver Print, in custom made frame Image size: 20.5 x 30.5 cm, Printed on 11 x 14" paper (27.9 x 35.4 cm), white border Series: 1970s Nightclubs of Chicago South Side Stamped; "Provenance Authenticated by Michael L Abramson Estate, 2011" on verso Frame: 38 x 48 cm (Custom made classic hardwood frame, stain in black, museum mount board and antireflective UV AR protective art glass) All prints from 1970s South Side Chicago series are available for purchase as the singular works or as the group of images - please view a selection on 1stDibs and the gallery storefront. All works are Vintage Silver Gelatin prints made by the photographer at the time there were taken. About the Photographer: Michael L Abramson was born in New Jersey in 1948, the late American photographer graduated with Master of Photography from Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago in 1977. His work was regularly featured in Time, New York Times, Newsweek, People, Forbes, Harpers, Wall Street Journal and other popular American and international magazines. He was a highly sought after commercial portrait photographer and photojournalist. His subjects comprised celebrities, prominent stars from sport, politics and the entertainment industry included Bill Clinton, Steve Jobs, Steven Spielberg, Michael Jordan, Oprah Winfrey and many more. Yet it was his 1970s series documenting the Chicago South side club scene that made Abramson’s name. Influenced by Brassaï’s photographs of the 1920s Paris, Abramson caught the stylish nightlife of the funk and soul era in full, alluring swing. His work was exhibited frequently since 1978, including a solo show at Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, in 2014 and in the same year the group show on American Photography since 1950 at Madison Museum of Contemporary Arts (US). Following Abramson’s death in 2011 a new book entitled Gotta Go Gotta Flow: Life, Love, and Lust From Chicago’s South Side was released by Chicago-based Chicago City...

Myvatn Nature Baths (framed) - large scale photograph of Iceland hot springs

By Massimo Vitali

Located in San Francisco, CA

large format photograph of iconic Icelandic hot springs by iconic Italian photographer Massimo Vitali, renowned for his grand scale topographical observations of the rites and rituals of modern leisure Myvatn Nature Baths (2016) 61.25” x 81” / 156 cm x 206 cm signed, titled and dated verso edition of 6 + 2AP original archival photography print with diasec (acrylic glass) face mount in contemporary white gallery frame Each limited edition original photograph is printed in Italy under artist supervision in strictly limited edition (6 + 2AP) , signed/titled/dated upon final inspection and expertly framed at renowned European art framing facility About the artist: Massimo Vitali was born in Como, Italy, in 1944. He studied photography at the London College of Printing, in the 1970s initially working as a photojournalist, but at the beginning of the 80s a growing mistrust in the belief, that photography had an absolute capacity to reproduce the subtleties of reality, led to a change in his career path. He worked in cinematography for film and television before beginning a fine art practice in 1995. Over the next two decades, Vitali’s large scale works would become recognizable for his highly detailed sociopolitical observations of the natural habitat of humankind at leisure. His iconic series of beach panoramas, captured from a distance with an elevated large format camera platform, began in the light of drastic political changes in Italy. Drawing inspiration from Renaissance and Old Flemish masters, in which the central space is fully exploited and the urban or natural landscape becomes the background, Vitali’s photographs grasp the viewer by capturing highly detailed observances of humanity’s coastal habitats in the bright light of summer. Vitali’s work has been collected in six monographs: Beach and Disco, Natural Habitats, Landscapes With Figures, Swimming Pools, Short Stories and the just published Entering A New World. Additionally, his work is represented in the world’s major museums, including the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the Fond National Art Contemporaine in Paris, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Musée National d’Art Moderne in Paris, the Fondation Cartier in Paris and the Museo Luigi Pecci in Prato. Massimo Vitali lives and works in Lucca (Italy) and in Berlin (Germany). __________________________ SOLO EXHIBITIONS 2021 'PienoVuoto' Forte di Belvedere, Florence 2021 'No Country For Old Men...

Au chic Parisien - Off-Print # 1 - 1981 - Minimalist Black & White Photography

By Jörg Krichbaum

Located in Brussels, BE

Artwork sold in perfect condition - Off-Print # 1 from the portfolio Au Chic Parisien (Coffret Prestige # 8 on 1stdibs) This image was captured on film (1981) The selected negative was printed on Baryta paper by the author and then limited digital reproduction printed later (2021) on fine art paper Photo Rag Baryta 310 gsm for highest age resistance using pigment inks which are known for their longevity. In a text devoted to him, evoking these seemingly silent photos of Krichbaum, one critic used the term "din" to define the flow of thoughts and feelings that escaped from it. In this too quick glimpse of Paris, the artist creates a dialogue between the white glass balls of a hotel chandelier with two ostrich eggs in the window of a fashionable decorator, while the fashion models, scattered at will shops and seasons, endless stories are exchanged. Limited Edition 1/5 Unframed Please note this will include any custom sizes requested German photographer Jörg Krichbaum...
