Agata Kijanka
I Dream of Hanging Gardens, Abstract Oil Painting

2020

About the Item

Artist Comments
"The hanging gardens found within Zion National Park are highly unusual, with lush green vegetation growing directly out of rock and thriving," says artist Agata Kijanka. "This porous sandstone weeps water which has seeped through it thousands of feet." Agata frequently travels to Zion to study this special location. In this emerald painting, she captures an emotional response to the natural wonder. Agata taped off the sides of the piece and a small strip along the front edge while she painted, creating a faux floating frame look with a dark chocolate brown color.

About the Artist
Artist Agata Kijanka creates sensually textured abstract paintings. Working from visual and emotional memory and imagination, Agata builds each artwork in layers - applying paint with scrapers and brayers, transferring paint from other surfaces, and removing paint with solvent and blades. One of the defining moments for Agata as an artist was when she moved alone to Santa Fe from Seattle in 2008. As she explains, it was "a beautiful place that I love with its rich art related history, plentiful galleries, and inspiring landscapes. I anticipated staying for 6 months but I ended up staying for 4 years." She continued her artistic journey to Sedona, AZ and now lives in Albuquerque where she works from her home studio. Putting down roots in the southwest has influenced Agata's work, especially time in the desert, the sunshine and open skies. When she's not painting, Agata enjoys cooking, gardening in her desert yard, and talking endlessly to her rescue dog.

"Teller 3" Oil on Canvas presents a singular form and background in varying shades of green, blue, yellow and white and eart tones. Frank Arnold is viewed as one of the foremost abstract figurative painters and sculptors of our time. He is a living master guided by a personal mission to “turn on a light in the human soul,” through his passionate creation of “Messengers” from his deeper mind connection with Carl Jung's archetypal images, the collective unconscious, and Jungian Synchronicity. Arnold has been honored as IAD Artist of the year 2018 by International Artist Day, and 2013 FAC Horizon Artist Award.
