About the Item

Speak to Me Softly, Oil on Canvas Painting by Jenny Lock B. 1949, 2023 Additional information: Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 76 x 76 cm 29 7/8 x 29 7/8 in Signed, titled and dated verso Jenny Lock came to painting later in life and the fresh relationship with the medium has clearly invigorated her developed aesthetic. Born in Kingston, Surrey, Jenny studied fashion at Epsom School of Art and Design before working as a freelance designer and illustrator in London. It was only after graduating from the Chelsea School of Art and Design in 2002 and moving to the Sussex coast, one of her constant sources of inspiration, that Jenny began to devote her time exclusively to painting in her garden studio. Though she is always drawing, Jenny prefers to paint intuitively, working directly onto the canvas and allowing her pictures to develop from a chaotic fusion of line, colour and shape. The process continues with erasing, scratching and gestural mark-making until a balanced composition emerges. Living metres from the sea means that the coast is a constant source of inspiration. The ever-changing light reflected onto the sea and the rich and varied textures of the coastline are an important influence on her work. Jenny's paintings have been widely exhibited in London and the South and internationally in France.

Confluence, Oil on Canvas Abstract Painting by Felicity Mara, 2021
Located in Kingsclere, GB
Confluence, Oil on Canvas Painting by Felicity Mara B. 1958, 2021 Additional information: Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 213.4 x 182.9 cm 84 x 72 in Signed, dated and titled verso Felicity Mara was born in London and studied Fine Art in Camberwell, though her works are intimately connected to the artistic heart of Cornwall, St Ives. Moving to the Duchy in 1994, she is now based at Porthmeor Studios, a space on the edge of the Atlantic which was used by Ben Nicholson and Sir Terry Frost. It is from here that she creates her elegantly spare pictures from abstracted forms in the much the same way that the St Ives school did in the 60s. Subject matter can be found, with vistas through windows, still lifes and waveforms alluded to in the sweeping marks of her brush. Felicity's sparse marks show the restraint of minimalism, so much more impressive in the usually large scale of her canvases. To create these striking lines, Felicity uses a wonderfully fresh palette and by leaving sections of the canvas unpainted her pictures echo the textures of the coastal landscape seen from her studio. "My paintings are not literal depictions of the things around me, but I work with all these things in a sense - the landscape outside my window...

Deborah Dancy "Believe it or Not" - Abstract Oil Painting on Canvas
By Deborah Dancy
Located in New York, NY
Deborah Dancy Believe it or Not, 2021 oil on canvas 32 x 34 in. (dan029) This original contemporary abstract painting by Deborah Dancy is comprised of hues of light pink, lime green, grey, and maroon in her signature built up/re-built space that as she says, "operate in a realm in which beauty and tension simultaneously exist without explanation or narrative." Deborah Dancy is an abstract artist. Her paintings and drawings are sensuous provocations beset with marks that guide, then abruptly collide into confrontational slabs of color. There is an atmosphere of complex but urgent tension in her work, as she builds tangential linear demarcations, and abutting shapes, that provoke, entice and disrupt; -taking us everywhere and nowhere. From densely painted forms to more minimally declared images, Dancy’s work operates in the recognition that meanderings, intentional and accidental declarations are best when the beautiful and the disconcerting exist simultaneously. Dancy was born in Bessemer, Alabama and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She earned BFA from Illinois Wesleyan University and an MS and an MFA from Illinois State University. She is the recipient of John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, a Yaddo Fellow, and a National Endowment of the Arts NEFA award. Her work is in many collections including The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The Birmingham Museum of Art, The Hunter Museum and The Detroit Institute of Art.
