About the Item
Rebeca Mendoza, Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1967
Nationality Argentine
Alma mater Regina Paccis School of Fine Arts Prilidiano Pueyrredón National School of Fine Arts
Style Abstract Painting
Rebeca Mendoza was born in Buenos Aires on October 24, 1967. She is a contemporary artist. At the age of six she started painting on canvas-covered cardboard from a personal and free perspective even though she had never attended painting classes. At the age of 15, she entered the Regina Paccis School of Fine Arts, and in 1992 she was granted her degree of Professor of Painting after completing her formal academic education in the Prilidiano Pueyrredón National School of Fine Arts. In 1984 Mendoza attended the workshop of Aurelio Macchi where she discovered the secrets of drawing, live model and sculpture. Also, she learnt about the Argentine artistic generation of the 40s. Later Mendoza studied with Alberto Delmonte (1933-2005), who was a direct disciple of Torres García, who set up Taller Sur in Buenos Aires. Delmonte introduced Mendoza to the basis of constructivism in the Río de la Plata, and invited her to play with the relations and rhythms of the plastic arts.
In 1990, Mendoza set up a studio in Buenos Aires, and held her first solo show in Museo Prilidiano Pueyrredón, Argentina, the same year. In 1992, she participated in a group show in Centro Cultural Recoleta, and was also part of another exhibition organized by the Sociedad Argentina de Artistas Plásticos (Argentine Association of Plastic Artists, SAAP). In 1993, she held solo shows in Fundación Integración and in 1994 in Fundación Banco Ciudad de Buenos Aires.
In 1994 and for six years thereafter, she settled in New York City, where she held exhibitions and taught art in Studio in a School, an institution founded by Agnes Gund, Philanthropist and President Emerita of the Museum of Modern Art. The Juno Gallery became interested in her work and invited her to prepare a solo show the following year. That was a turning point in her career and she decided to move to Clemente Soto Vélez, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
In 1995, Mendoza held her first solo show in Gallery Juno, and two years later she hosted another exhibition in the same gallery. Later on, she participated in the itinerant group show Latin American Artist, which travelled around the US during 1997. That same year she took part in the International Fair of Contemporary Art in Brussels, Belgium. In 1998, she hosted exhibitions with other artists in several American galleries, including Gallery Sarah Moody, Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Gallery Louisiana, Ruston, Louisiana and the Gallery Slocumb, Johnson. A year later, she hosted once again an exhibition in Manhattan, but this time with other artists in Open Studio, CSV. In 2001, Mendoza returned to Buenos Aires where she reopened her studio.
Back in Argentina, Mendoza reopened her studio in San Isidro Partido, a province of Buenos Aires, where students and colleagues relate to art from different perspectives but with the common denominator of being a vehicle of self expression. When Mendoza returned to Buenos Aires her work was managed by Ricardo Coppa Oliver, the founder of Galería Palatina, Galería Principium and Galería Coppa Oliver Arte and she hosted several solo and group shows in his gallery. Simultaneously, she continued holding exhibitions in New York and in different locations in the United States, mainly at the Juno Gallery and Artemisa Gallery], which specialized in Contemporary Latin American Art.
In 2015, Mendoza gathered a group of 15 Argentine artists residing in Argentina and in the United States and organized a show to pay homage to Julio Cortázar, which was presented on April 14, 2016, in Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center, New York.

Abstract oil on canvas painting by Ivan Freitas.
25" x 31" inch canvas, framed to 30" x 36".
Bearing a Barcinski Art Gallery label verso and a second label stating that the painting was sold in 1961 at a benefit auction for the Albert Einstein Hospital held at the Museum of San Paulo.
Ivan Freitas was a Brazilian Postwar & Contemporary painter and Muralist (1932-2006)
Son of muralist Severino Araújo, Ivan started painting as a self-taught artist.
His first individual exhibition was at the Public Library, in 1957. With the success of the exhibition, he was able to move to Rio de Janeiro the following year, in 1958, where he came into contact with the work of artists such as Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte who influenced him. Between 1962 and 1963 he resided as a fellow in Paris. Between 1969 and 1972, he was on his second tour abroad, in New York City and commissioned by the International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation.
Back in Brazil, he painted a mural of over a thousand square meters on the external wall of the National School of Music in Rio de Janeiro in 1984 - the first of the Arte nos Muros Project. Still in the 70s, he married Dalva Mendes Gall whom he left after his death in 200, an extensive collection where one can find all the best works of this renowned Paraiba artist in Brazil and abroad.
The stay in New York, from 1969 to 1972, was perhaps the greatest turning point in Ivan's career. Until then, according to art critic Roberto Pontual, the plastic artist followed "a phase of abstraction close to the informal". In the United States , with so much technological influence around him, Ivan becomes interested in the machine and its movement mechanisms and inserts these perceptions in his works, as kinetic constructions with small motors hidden in boxes as Pontual defines, and also and triggering light patterns in cyclic and repeated series. (similar to the Op Art works of Julio le Parc and works by Yves Tinguely being shown at Rene Denis Gallery in Paris
In 1968, the magazine Galeria de Arte Moderna (GAM), published an article entitled Ivan Freitas and the Cosmic Space.
In the Brazilian Dictionary of Plastic Artists , the Italian art critic Giuseppe Marchiori refers to Ivan Frentas as someone who "controls and dominates each part of the painting with a desire to deepen the image that surprises and enchants". Still according to the critic, Ivan is someone who preserves the mystery in the harmony between lines and the colorful atmosphere, where he creates pauses and rhythms for the reading of his "secret structures". Arte Neo Concreta artists Lygia Clark, Helio Oiticica and Lygia Pape, were all contemporaries
The poet Ferreira Gullar writes: "Freitas does not turn to the subjective world, does not inquire into the arcana of the unconscious; he inquires into the future and, in the solitude of his paintings, promises us a serene and orderly world. And, if in his landscapes man does not appear, it is not that this order excludes him - it is that he has not yet reached it. "

Large Spanish Contemporary Juan Suarez Abstract Bold Painting Triptych Group
Located in Surfside, FL
Juan Suarez (Spanish, b. 1946)
Naturaleza Muerta,
Mixed media painting on three assembled canvases, (triptych)
It is either oil or acrylic paint. it seems like oil to me. A label verso has it indicated as acrylic.
Dimensions: 64 1/8 W: 64 1/4 in.
Provenance: The Cleveland Museum of Art (bears label verso);
Galerie Juana de Aizpuru Gallery (bears label verso).
Born in Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz). Studies at the ETSA and at the Superior School of Fine Arts of Santa Isabel of Hungary in Seville. Grant from the Juan March Foundation in 1976. Advanced studies in Architecture and Fine Arts, University of Seville. Although he was not born in Seville, Juan Suárez is a member of the group of painters from the city who, in the seventies, linked their artistic practice, based fundamentally on painting, to international tendencies. Rather than a set of intellectual ideas, José Ramón Sierra, Gerardo Delgado and Juan Suárez shared a life experience: they were all students at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura in Seville and were all interested in art. Juan Suárez also studied at the Fine Arts Faculty. He held his first individual exhibition at Galería Juana de Aizpuru in 1970. (They were an important contemporary art gallery in Seville spain and showed Wolfgang Tillmans, Georg Dokoupil, Jordi Colomer, Albert Oehlen, Eduardo Chillida and Andres Serrano). In 1982 his work was shown in Diez Pintores Sevillanos, together with Manuel Salinas (1940) and Ignacio Tovar (1947), among others. At various points his worked has been shaped by American Abstract Expressionist painting, Latin American Geometric Abstraction and by Constructivist painting and sculpture. In 1976 he received a grant from Fundación March, and in 1980 another from CINFE at the Ministry of Culture. He was awarded the Drawing Prizes at the Nuremberg Biennial (1979) and ARTEDER 82, the Premio de Pintura from the Diputación Provincial de Sevilla, also in 1982, and the Premio de los Festivales de Navarra in 1985.
The Geometric spirit that is ever-present in his work and his perpetual curiosity lead him to incorporate materials from a very wide range of sources; composing some pieces with superimposed planes where abstraction is a key actor. His background in architectural practice and his constant demand for excellence profoundly shape his work. In his work, the influences of Barnett Newman, Jules Olitski, Kenneth Noland and, especially, Richard Diebenkorn can be appreciated. However, Juan Suárez moves away, at the same time, from the uniform vibration of color fields and the structural rigidity of closed compositions, alternating both concepts, from an emotional and poetic perspective. The density of the color dialogues with drippings and suggestive liquidiscent stains, while reserves and sharp lines make up and hold the pictorial structure. He writes in different magazines and specialized books on art and architecture. Recently the University of Seville has published its research work, New Ways of Living.

GREGG ROBINSON
The universe of visual art encompasses a huge spectrum of motivation and means of expression. Examples range from the most syrupy sentimentality to extremes of moral and intellectual confrontation. For me, the creative process is, on the simplest level, an aesthetic puzzle. Elements of the puzzle include contrast, color, visual texture, graphic pattern, and in some recent work, a simple cryptic symbolism.
I have never been particularly interested in lyric or pictorial content, and though some of my work does contain undeniable spatial illusion, even that tends to be a by-product rather than a goal of the primary pursuit: the balance of light and dark, pure color and organic neutrals, energy and calm, strong pattern and subtle field. Having grown up in an environment of contemporary architecture, I have always valued the classic modern synthesis of form and function exemplified by the Bauhaus movement of the early 20th century. Hence, the simplest solutions are often the most satisfying. Obviously, the modernist ideal of efficiency in form and function requires that method of execution be as well adapted to the aesthetic goal as the visual language itself.
The media before you is the result of many years of experimentation that came to its current form in early 1992. I work with dry pigment over a plaster surface. My tools are broad knives, sponges, rags and masking. The finish is a high gloss alkyd resin.

Signed.
Moshé Raviv-Vorobeichic, known as Moi Ver, born Moses Vorobeichik (1904–1995) was an Israeli photographer and painter.
Moi Ver (Moshe Raviv) was born in 1904 in Vilnius, Lithuania as Moshe Vorobeichic.
Moshe Vorobeichic received his initial artistic training in the early 1920s in Vilnius, Lithuania, where he studied painting, architecture, and photography. Having become an important figure in the Yiddish avant-garde culture, he exhibited his first works. From October 1927, he studied at the Bauhaus school in Dessau (Germany), with photographer-visual artist Laszlo Moholy Nagy and painters Josef Albers, Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, and Hinnerk Scheper.
In his book Moi Ver: Paris, he produced avant-garde photomontages. Originally published in 1931 by Editions Jeanne Walter with an introduction by futurist Fernand Leger.
In 1932 Raviv was sent by the weekly La Vie Parisienne to British Mandate Palestine as photo reporter. Raviv illustrated many books. Raviv was a founder of the Artists' Colony in Safed.
At the height of 20th Century modernism and one of the followers of Laszlo Moholy Nagy and his concept of New Vision, Moin Ver was one of the rising stars in European photography. Born in Lebedeva, in Belarus, he wandered through Europe until he immigrated to Palestine in 1934. His well known yet partly forgotten three photographic projects in 1931, The Ghetto Lane in Wilna, Paris: 80 Photographies de Moi Ver and Ci-Contre – 110 Photos de Moi Ver (that was not published at the time), have remained milestones in the art of the 1930s as he created and imposed a new visionary style in photography.
As a contemporary of artists such as Man Ray, Ilse Bing...

Untitled (Triptych 5) : contemporary abstract work of art
Located in New York, NY
Abstract geometric artwork by a contemporary artist Gerald Wolfe.
Gerald Wolfe’s wall pieces have a three-dimensional, architectural feel. The artist’s approach to his paintings is intuitive. He meticulously creates his works step by step, imbuing shapes and lines with energy. The interplay of forms, color, and texture creates tension between flatness and depth. His work can become a unique gift and will be a wonderful addition to any space, be it a living room of a modern home or a lobby of a commercial building.
Gerald Wolfe received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Maryland in 1972, discovered his interest in art and went on to study fine arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. In the summer of 1974, he also studied at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. From his first show in 1979, a summer invitational at OK Harris Gallery, Gerald has shown his work on a consistent basis in New York, including such galleries as Denise Bibro Fine Art, NYC, and Kim Foster Gallery, NYC . In addition, he has had solo exhibits at the Paterson Museum in Paterson, New Jersey...
