About the Item
"Red Line" by Steven H. Rehfeld is a vibrant 48" x 36" mixed-media masterpiece that pulses with the raw energy and complexity of abstract expressionism. This artwork is a riot of texture and color, with bold reds slicing through a chaotic tapestry of newsprint, scribbles, and splashes, suggesting a narrative caught in a storm of emotion and movement. Rehfeld’s piece invites contemplation of the red lines we draw in our lives—boundaries, breaking points, or connections. It can be positioned either horizontally or vertically, allowing for varied interpretations of its narrative. The overall feel is one of dynamism and layered meaning, a visual representation of the cacophony of the modern world, and the personal and societal boundaries that define it.
About the Artist:
Steven H. Rehfeld is now one of the top emerging artists in the United States. His works are groundbreaking, bold, and imbued with unflinching disregard for painting conventions. Many works are in collections and museums in the U.S.
Steven is also part of the 'Outsiders' school of art, originating in France in the 19th century. Also known as the Naïve movement, it was comprised of people with no art training at all, who suddenly started to paint. Many of them are from very challenging backgrounds. All they had was talent that had never before been tapped. In no time this movement became a significant art phenomenon and spread all over the world.
His work, however, has branched out past the movement and his use of earth elements renders a basic and raw interpretation of his message.

Steven H. Rehfeld
Steven H. Rehfeld, a California artist, holds a B.A. in studio art from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He draws inspiration from the 'Outsiders' school of art that originated in 19th-century France, known as the Naïve movement. Also referred to as the Naïve or Primitive art movement, was comprised of artists with no formal art training who discovered their talent and began painting. Many of these artists came from challenging backgrounds, and their raw talent remained untapped until they expressed themselves through art. The movement quickly gained prominence and spread worldwide. Steven Rehfeld's artistic style has evolved beyond the Naïve movement, incorporating earth elements to create a basic and raw interpretation of his artistic message. Artist Statement "My oil, acrylic, and mixed media paintings explore the dynamic relationship between progressiveness and tradition, personal and cultural experiences, and the interplay between the human form and iconography. Through these explorations, I engage in a dialogue that reveals how the intangible influences the material world. Color contrast forms, negative/positive space, and visual kinetic energy shape these artistic relationships. Additionally, I fuse abstract art with elements of realism to create a unique artistic experience." Colourful, French mixed media abstract, acrylic, newsprint and ink from the 1980s. The canvas is signed and dated bottom right but we have not yet managed to decipher it.
A colourful and engaging painting crossing over styles. The colourfield elements are reminiscent of the work of Mark Rothko, three defined bands of colour in orange/pink tones vertically dissecting the painting with one horizontal band across the top, and yet the elongated depiction of the female figures within the bands remind us of Gustav Klimt and his paintings of Adele.
The background of the painting has been worked broadly with a palette knife whilst the detail has been added quickly and deftly with ink or finer brushstrokes. With the addition of newsprint (in French) the artist may...
