SILENT ECHOS

Earthly tones of color, some vibrant as a stormy sky, some muted and soft. At first, that is all you see. Upon closer scrutiny you find images almost completely buried, seemingly forgotten writings, drawings, tiny prints, sheet music, are all mingle along with torn book pages immigration papers, tea stained paper, a print of a feather, calligraphy. All fragments of lives and their untold stories. Sylvia Torres, was born in California, one will find the ocean, sky and mountains reflected in her work. Coastal Fugue #1
By Sylvia Torres
Located in Palm Desert, CA
This is the beautiful island Santa Rosa, one of the Channel Islands Sanctuary islands just off the California mainland. This vast stretch is adorned with a variety of fiery wildflowers stretching far and wide, like a musical composition of various themes and in different voices. Santa Rosa is home to an incredible array of birds and marine life. It is a narrow but spreading landscape ribboned with trails, each one seemingly in the manner of a flight or chase, repeating the same melody in a slight variation. The cliffs drop hundreds of feet to the crashing swells of ocean below, home to historic shipwrecks peacefully intact. Torres’ paintings appear on the sets of popular television shows: Big Little Big Lies, Criminal Minds, Chicago Med, Grey’s Anatomy...

ENLIGHTENMENT
By Sylvia Torres
Located in Palm Desert, CA
The Ensō, a Japanese word meaning “circle” and a concept associated with Zen. It is at once the most fundamentally simple yet the most complex shape, symbolizing enlightenment, strength, elegance and the universe. It is an expression of living in, and being in the moment, mentally and spiritually whole. Often irregular in execution, always with a broken space within it. In the hands of Zen masters, the varieties of personal expression are endless. Sylvia Torres, was born in California, one will find the ocean, sky and mountains reflected in her work. She also spent several years in Texas, where she attended the University of Houston, studied commercial art and became the Art Director at several advertising agencies. WAXING POETIC. encaustic landscape painting
By Sylvia Torres
Located in Palm Desert, CA
Waxing Poetic is an expression of lyrical Earthly beauty and serenity. Its title has the double meaning of both growing aesthetically and a nod to the painting medium used to create it, encaustic. This landscape draws on deep emotions in an imaginative and beautiful way, pleasing both the senses and the mind. It has a deeply felt beauty, and a calm oasis of serenities. Bands of gold tether the gentle blue heavens to the fertile soil of mother earth. The high notes and the low notes of color whisper to the senses, just as nature skillfully and poetically stirs the imagination and weaves tranquility together with a vibrant yet bold intimacy. Sylvia Torres, was born in California, one will find the ocean, sky and mountains reflected in her work. She also spent several years in Texas, where she attended the University of Houston, studied commercial art and became the Art Director at several advertising agencies.
