About the Item
Introspective and innovative—Yvonne Lammerich’s bold contemporary artwork always inspires. Here circles radiate outward from a target in the center of a neutral canvas rendered in a fresh palette of grays, lilac, turquoise and bright green. This richly textured painting’s scale is in direct proportion to the artist’s body. Using one arm extended and holding a paintbrush, Lammerich moved across the canvas ‘leaving a trace of this motion and vibration of the living breathing body.’ This painting can be displayed as either a diamond or a square.

This artwork can be displayed as a diamond shape (85 x 85 inches) or also as a square shape (60 x 60 inches).
Yvonne Lammerich was born in Germany in 1946. She emigrated with her family to Canada in 1959. Lammerich attended the Ontario College of Art and also received a master’s in art history from Concordia University in Quebec. She furthered her studies and acquired a Ph.D. from the Université du Québec à Montréal. While pursuing her own art, she also taught at York University, OCAD University, the University of Lethbridge, and Zayed University in Dubai. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally including at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art and is held in numerous private and public collections

Yvonne Lammerich, AOCA, Ph.D. art history, born and raised in Germany, has lived in England, France, and Canada since the ’60s, and is a recipient of the Maria Stafford Mid-Career prize from the Canada Council. She has exhibited nationally and internationally since the 1980s, including the first Quebec Biennale, MOCCA-Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, and The Nunnery, London UK. Recent solo exhibitions include Occurrence Centre d’art contemporain and Hangar 7826/art actuel, both in Montreal. Lammerich has written extensively on art, and her own artwork has been reviewed nationally and internationally, including Parachute Magazine and Art Press. Recent projects include a public art project in Suzhou and an exhibition in Shanghai (2016) as well as participation in the Bonavista Biennale (2019). Her work is in museums, corporate and private collections. The exhibition project Voices: artists on Art, co-authored with Ian Carr-Harris, has been presented at Artport, Toronto, the SAAG, Lethbridge AB, and Zayed University UAE. The hardcover comprehensive catalogue “Voices: artists on Art” was published in the fall of 2020 and represents 51 visual artists across Canada and can be purchased at the National Gallery.
