The imagery of hummingbirds and bird feeders amongst graphic representation of trees, leaves and branches are created with defined black inkwork lines. Front Room Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition of new works on paper by Jesse Lambert, titled, "Shelter, Scatter, Feed". This is Jesse Lambert’s second solo show at Front Room Gallery. In this exhibition, Lambert continues to explore themes of shelter, safety, and the passing of time. His ink and watercolor paintings on paper depict abandoned scenes in an abstracted rural space. In previous works, Lambert combined the spaces of domesticity and the natural world, with an occasional appearance of the human figure. His new work contemplates the new reality under COVID-19, and continues to evoke the universal need for shelter and protection. In these paintings Lambert imagines the world abandoned by human inhabitants, reclaimed by nature- as if the world has moved on, without us.
In this series,
Lambert’s familiar color washes have taken on a more natural hue. Lambert presents a grouping of medium sized paintings which explore the theme of birdhouses as a metaphor for human needs. The birdhouses are falling apart or incomplete, dysfunctional structures failing to meet their stated function.
In his larger paintings, remnants of built structures of unknown use are scattered across a forested setting. Strips or planks of wood are nailed to tree trunks. A broken ladder promises ascent, but falls apart. Fragments of wood and string hint at former use, yet all vestiges of functionality have disappeared. Abandoned bird feeders swing precariously. Within the chaos of darting birds, falling leaves and flowers, and remnants of built space, a pattern almost emerges. These paintings emote a feeling of webbed interconnectedness that reveals the beauty of decayed things, and an allure of the poignancy of impermanence.

Henry Bermudez is a seasoned American contemporary artist born in Venezuela. The acrylic and glitter on canvas painting "COMPANIES" depicts an Afro-Latinx figure with animals and blue, silver, and red flowers. In the Venezuelan coastal Afro-Caribbean community of Borbures, religious and social syncretism provided a unique vision of the African Diaspora in the Americas with its symbolism and iconography.
Bermudez’s journey of unique geographical, artistic and human observation has taken him from educational experiences in small isolated communities in the Caribbean up to representing Venezuela in the Venice Biennial. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PA); Neuberger Museum of Art (Purchase, NY); Modern Art Museum of Mexico (Mexico City); Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin); Venezuela National Gallery (Caracas); Museum of Contemporary Art (Maracay, Merida, Maracaibo, Caracas); Modern Art Museum of Costa Rica; Museum of Art a Ralli @Punta Del Este Uruguay; and many private collections across the globe. Omaha based artist Joseph Broghammer is as much of a storyteller as he is an artist. His one-of-a-kind pastel drawings in “Animals” are chronicles of his life. The creatures Broghammer creates are vehicles to uncover the varying characteristics of the artist’s personal identity.
Hence, Broghammer’s “Animals” translates as a flowing stream of consciousness. The different birds and livestock staring back at the viewer are ornamented with iconographic symbols – small surprises along the way. These trinkets are keys to understanding the stories Broghammer is sharing.

Jennifer Lowe has combined the landscapes, animals and the people of her native Montana with a unique approach to painting.
Born in Missoula, Jennifer spent parts of her childhood working in the fields of her grandparent's homestead property in Montana's Grasshopper Valley. Lowe's paintings are rendered in the vivid color and rich texture of livestock markers and capture the whimsical images from her imagination and the memories of her Montana upbringing.

Omaha based artist Joseph Broghammer is as much of a storyteller as he is an artist. His one-of-a-kind pastel drawings in “Animals” are chronicles of his life. The creatures Broghammer creates are vehicles to uncover the varying characteristics of the artist’s personal identity.
Hence, Broghammer’s “Animals” translates as a flowing stream of consciousness. The different birds and livestock staring back at the viewer are ornamented with iconographic symbols – small surprises along the way. These trinkets are keys to understanding the stories Broghammer is sharing.
Broghammer began mastering his “dry painting” technique during his B.F.A. in Visual Art at the University of South Dakota. He graduated in 1986 and a year later went on to study his M.F.A. at the University of Wisconsin. In 2009, he studied at Creative Capital in Omaha, Nebraska.
As storytellers often do, Broghammer later went on to become an educator himself, teaching at WhyArts? and becoming an Artist Assistant at Vera Mercer in Omaha – both of which he still practices at today.
It’s apparent that Broghammer’s work has resonated with so many people around the world. Only a few years after his formal education, he began exhibiting his work through various International group shows in Italy, Germany, Holland, Mexico, and even Kansas City.
Although Broghammer’s portraits depict downy creatures, his work is very much about the human experience. They are honest and full of life, evoking a sincere exchange between artist and viewer. “Animals” is for the animal lovers, students, teachers, collectors, writers, the young or old, and art historians alike.
