Koi Pond Caucus - Japanese Style Gyotaku Painting on Archival Kraft Paper
Located in Chicago, IL
In Japan they are known as Nishikigoi, or living jewels. These brilliantly colored varieties of the Amur carp have been selectively bred by family owned fisheries for generations. When I began this series of Gyotaku (Japanese fish printing) I studied the many varieties of Koi, each with their own unique colors and patterns. My particular favorites are the Tanchos which can be identified by the distinct red spot on their heads. To create these pieces I print common carp I catch myself with sumi ink using traditional techniques used by Japanese fisherman...

This is a framed painting. This painting is oil on paper, and is monochromatic black. Reed's primary focus has been the rich vein of Northern European art from the mid-17th through 18th centuries, a period of enlightenment and profound interest in science, nature, and the animal world. Animals were assigned human traits (peacock:vanity; dog:fidelity), and nature itself was considered a symbol of God's providence - a commonly held belief within the stratified, gentry dominated social order of the time. Reed (b. 1958, New York, NY) lives and works in Boston, MA. She is a recipient of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts Maud Morgan...

"Hummingbirds and Honeysuckle", ink and watercolor painting on paper
Located in New York, NY
78” x 42” ink and watercolor on paper, signed on reverse by the artist, Jesse Lambert. The abstract ground of washes of green, blue, orange and rose tones over white create an active field of color. The imagery of hummingbirds and bird feeders amongst graphic representation of trees, leaves and branches are created with defined black inkwork lines. Pattern and repetition with the vertical tree trunks, are intersected with cross sections of lumber with beautiful wood grain. This large scale painting is featured in "Shelter, Scatter, Feed" a solo show of new works by Jesse Lambert. Front Room Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition of new works on paper by Jesse Lambert, titled, "Shelter, Scatter, Feed". This is Jesse Lambert’s second solo show at Front Room Gallery. In this exhibition, Lambert continues to explore themes of shelter, safety, and the passing of time. His ink and watercolor paintings on paper depict abandoned scenes in an abstracted rural space. In previous works, Lambert combined the spaces of domesticity and the natural world, with an occasional appearance of the human figure. His new work contemplates the new reality under COVID-19, and continues to evoke the universal need for shelter and protection. In these paintings Lambert imagines the world abandoned by human inhabitants, reclaimed by nature- as if the world has moved on, without us. In this series,
Lambert’s familiar color washes have taken on a more natural hue. Lambert presents a grouping of medium sized paintings which explore the theme of birdhouses as a metaphor for human needs. The birdhouses are falling apart or incomplete, dysfunctional structures failing to meet their stated function. In his larger paintings, remnants of built structures of unknown use are scattered across a forested setting. Strips or planks of wood are nailed to tree trunks. A broken ladder promises ascent, but falls apart. Fragments of wood and string hint at former use, yet all vestiges of functionality have disappeared. Abandoned bird feeders swing precariously. Within the chaos of darting birds, falling leaves and flowers, and remnants of built space, a pattern almost emerges. These paintings emote a feeling of webbed interconnectedness that reveals the beauty of decayed things, and an allure of the poignancy of impermanence. In a series of smaller black and white drawings...

Companies -- contemporary landscape painting w/ figure, animals & blue flowers
Located in Bryn Mawr, PA
Henry Bermudez is a seasoned American contemporary artist born in Venezuela. Emerged from the Caribbean tropics, his artistic life has been an unexpected hybrid of ideas informed by an acute sensitivity to the past, stenciled as part of a personal inventory onto different foreign places that throughout his life have become his home and his artistic working territory. "My paintings are steeped in mythical dream imagery within an otherworldliness of carefully constructed creature and plant forms. Further defined by my identity as a Latino, my work combines symbols and myth from ancient pre-Hispanic cultures with the iconography of contemporary art. The result of this autobiographical vision is a blend of cultural diversities that further defines itself through my immersion in societies other than the one I was born into. Through my exposure to religious and social syncretism, my visual itinerary became charged with powerful influences which provided a unique vision of the African Diaspora in the Americas, its symbolism, and iconography." - Henry Bermudez The acrylic and glitter on canvas painting "COMPANIES" depicts an Afro-Latinx figure with animals and blue, silver, and red flowers. In the Venezuelan coastal Afro-Caribbean community of Borbures, religious and social syncretism provided a unique vision of the African Diaspora in the Americas with its symbolism and iconography. Bermudez’s journey of unique geographical, artistic and human observation has taken him from educational experiences in small isolated communities in the Caribbean up to representing Venezuela in the Venice Biennial. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PA); Neuberger Museum of Art (Purchase, NY); Modern Art Museum of Mexico (Mexico City); Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin); Venezuela National Gallery (Caracas); Museum of Contemporary Art (Maracay, Merida, Maracaibo, Caracas); Modern Art Museum of Costa Rica; Museum of Art a Ralli @Punta Del Este Uruguay; and many private collections across the globe. Since his arrival in the USA in 2003, Bermudez has been commissioned by the Mural Arts Program of Philadelphia on several major projects. In 2011, he was one of a handful of artists chosen to work with the Philagrafika print collaborative founded by artistic director and curator Jose Roca. In 2012 Mr. Bermudez received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. He was elected to present an installation at The Philadelphia International Airport Art...

The Hungry Dancer
Located in Kansas City, MO
Due to the current situation related to the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, our gallery will donate 10% of our commission from this sale to the Kansas City Artists Coalition, which has been supporting local Kansas City Artists for the past 40 years. The Kansas City Artists Coalition (KCAC), is a non-profit, artist-centered, artist-run alternative space, supporting artists at every level in their career through exhibitions, continuing education and artist studios. Artist: Joseph Broghammer Title: “The Hungry Dancer” Materials : Chalk pastel and pencil on Arches Paper Date : 2017 Dimensions : 19 x 22 in. Omaha based artist Joseph Broghammer is as much of a storyteller as he is an artist. His one-of-a-kind pastel drawings in “Animals” are chronicles of his life. The creatures Broghammer creates are vehicles to uncover the varying characteristics of the artist’s personal identity. Hence, Broghammer’s “Animals” translates as a flowing stream of consciousness. The different birds and livestock staring back at the viewer are ornamented with iconographic symbols – small surprises along the way. These trinkets are keys to understanding the stories Broghammer is sharing. Broghammer began mastering his “dry painting” technique during his B.F.A. in Visual Art at the University of South Dakota. He graduated in 1986 and a year later went on to study his M.F.A. at the University of Wisconsin. In 2009, he studied at Creative Capital in Omaha, Nebraska. As storytellers often do, Broghammer later went on to become an educator himself, teaching at WhyArts? and becoming an Artist Assistant at Vera Mercer...

Protect Our Winter
Located in Denver, CO
This is a mixed media painting on paper done in an illustrative style. It is set in a winter forest. The birch trees are set in an almost pattern like composition. There are several animals in the piece, including deer, foxes, wolves, ferrets, bunnies, and owls. The painting is titled "Protect Our Winters" after a group dedicated to protecting Montana's environment from climate change. Jennifer Lowe has combined the landscapes, animals and the people of her native Montana with a unique approach to painting. Born in Missoula, Jennifer spent parts of her childhood working in the fields of her grandparent's homestead property in Montana's Grasshopper Valley. Lowe's paintings are rendered in the vivid color and rich texture of livestock markers and capture the whimsical images from her imagination and the memories of her Montana upbringing. Jennifer began using the oil paintsticks in 1985 while a student at Montana State University. Since graduating in 1987, Lowe has been shown alongside such well know western artists as Thorn Ross, Howard Post...

Only a few years after his formal education, he began exhibiting his work through various International group shows in Italy, Germany, Holland, Mexico, and even Kansas City.
