About the artist:
Born in 1876 in Saint-Omer, Eugène René is the second of four children of Antoine Albert Liénard of Saint-Delis (1840-1881), officer of the 5 th regiment of dragons and his wife Antoinette Emma Houet (1847 -1920). The birth of our artist is followed by that of his brother Henri (1878-1949), also a painter . The death of the illnesses of Captain Liénard de Saint-Delis led Emma to leave the Pas-de-Calais in 1881 to move to Le Havre with her four children.
After high school François-I of Le Havre where another student, Émile Othon Friesz , is his best friend, René de Saint-Delis attended successively the Municipal School of Fine Arts of Le Havre where, with his classmates, besides his brother Henri and Othon Friesz, others who will also become his friends ( Georges Braque , Raoul Dufy , Raimond Lecourt ), he follows the courses of Charles Lhuillier (a "great admirer of Boudin " at the same time as "he places the drawing first and foremost, forbidding his pupils to use color , and the Académie Julian in Paris, where from 1900 to 1904 he was a pupil of William Bouguereau . On January 29, 1906, Le Havre created the Circle of Modern Art, which consisted of artists (among them, René and Henri de Saint-Delis, their aforementioned friends, but also Gaston Prunier...

John Edward Bale, was born at Low Farm House, Pattesley-cum-Oxwick,
South Creake, Norfolk on 27 July and baptised at South Creake on
1 August 1834, eldest child of John Edward Bale (1803-27 April 1862),
a farmer of 620 acres, and his wife Mary née Branford,
who married at Horningtoft, Norfolk on 27 November 1833. In 1841,
a 6 year old, living at Low Farm with his parents, 35 year old John and
28 year old Mary, and his two sisters, Mary 3 and Esther 1. In 1861,
a 26 year old 'artist architecture' boarding at 11 Bulstrode Street,
Marylebone, London but in October 1863, he was an Ensign by purchase
in the 1st West Indian Regiment. As a lieutenant, whilst on a tour of
duty in West Africa, Surgeon Major Augustus Frederick Elliott (born 1834),
kept a diary (now at Duke University Library) which is embellished with
calligraphy and watercolour titles by Bale. During this tour, Bale was
promoted to Captain and retired from the army in 1881 with the rank of major.
Bale married at Christ Church, Ealing on 10 November 1868,
Charlotte Gordon Lee née Johnson (c1847-1910).

Lucien Adrion was born May 25, 1889 in Strasbourg, France. He was a French Post-Impressionist painter, draftsman, and printmaker known for his depictions of the French countryside and beaches, as well as Parisian life including landscape, still life, figure, and landmarks paintings. He began his initial studies in Strasbourg as a technical draughtsman. In 1907, at the age of 18, he left his hometown Strasbourg and traveled to Paris, where he found employment in a large drafting company to work as a fashion illustrator. Adrion changed his mind upon arrival and rather than working for a large company, he decided to peruse his artistic career by traveling to London, Munich, and Frankfurt. As the World War broke out he had to go to Berlin, where he studied as an engraver with Hermann Struck, who was also the teacher of Marc Chagall. Rare Early 20th Century Cornish Harbor Fishing Boats Landscape 1910
Located in Soquel, CA
Important and historical painting titled, "Cornish Harbor With Boats" by Royal Academy of British Artists member Adolph M. Brougier (German, 1870-1926). Brougier exhibited at the 100th anniversary of the Reign of Queen Victoria Exhibition of 1911. Signed lower left corner "Brougier." Label on verso: "No 278, Adolph Brougier, RBA. Sold by Mrs. John Diehl, Daughter of the Artist."
Born in Germany, Brougier studied art in France and spent his later years painting in Santa Barbara,California. Image, 15"H x 22"W. Displayed in vintage wood frame.
BROUGIER, Adolph was born on September 23, 1870 in Stuttgart. Son of a German merchant whose family was of French origin.
Education
Stuttgart; Munich; Studied art for three years at Munich, and later spent a year in Paris, where he studied under Benjamin Constant and Bougereau.
Career
From there he went to Rome, where he also took up sculpture. Settling down in Munich he became a member of the Ktinster Genossenschaft and Luitpoldgruppe. Paid frequent visits to Italy, Spain, and the Tyrol.
Has lived in England since 1901. Exhibits at Munich, Berlin, Salon at Paris, and Royal Academy. Figure and landscape painter.
