Albert Naur first studied Philosophy and Law in Copenhagen (1908-1911) while painting in a naturalist style. Deciding to focus on his career as a fine artist, he moved to Paris in 1912. During his first visit, he studied for two years at the Academie de la Palette under Fauconnier and Dunoyer de Segonzac. Naur was initially influenced by Cubism but soon relaxed into a linear form of Post-Impressionism. Over the course of the next decade, he was the awarded numerous scholarships including the prestigious Hielmstierne-Rosencrone Prize (1915) and the Akadamie Scholarship which he received four times, (1916, 1920, 1922, 1924). While living and painting in Denmark from 1919-1922, he continued to visit Paris regularly. His palette continued to brighten and his brushwork to become looser as he was exposed to the Modernist atmosphere of the Paris of early 1920's.
Over the course of a long and successful career, he exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous medals and juried awards including a silver medal in Paris (1925). Albert Naur is listed in all relevant art reference works including Thieme-Becker and Benezit's definitive dictionary of artists.
