About the Item
Alfred S. Mira created intimate views of New York City’s most beloved landmarks during the mid-twentieth century. Inspired by the Realism and urban subject matter of earlier American art movements, Mira captured the atmosphere and scenery associated with sites throughout the city. In a review entitled “Among the New Exhibitions” in The New York Times, February 25, 1945, art critic Howard Devree praised Mira’s remarkable street scenes with “melodramatic shafts of light across busy thoroughfares sound, traditional painting that might be called impressionistic realism.”
