Description: A beautifully observed British watercolour landscape by Tony Herbert 1927 to 2024 depicting a coastal marina with boat sheds scattered across the shoreline and a distant view of moored vessels along the horizon. Though the location is unidentified the scene is suggestive of a working harbour or estuary village in southern or eastern England featuring typical maritime structures and a natural foreground of sandy paths and scrubland.
The sky dominates the composition filled with fast-moving grey clouds while the distant rooftops and clustered boats appear almost silhouetted against the atmospheric light. The foreground is painted with warm earthy tones and dynamic brushwork suggesting tidal textures and seasonal grasses. In the centre of the composition a dirt track or footpath leads the viewer’s gaze into the scene adding both perspective and narrative movement.

Original watercolor on archival paper by the well known Massachusetts artist, John Cuthbert Hare. Signed lower right you the artist. Condition is excellent. The artwork is in its original gold leaf over wood frame. Circa 1950. Under glass. The scene is mostly likely the Cape Cod coast where Hare painted. Overall framed measurements are 16 by 20 inches. Provenance: Massachusetts estate.
