Swiss Pastoral landscape Alpine valley at sunset 19th century Oil painting

e.g. 1840

About the Item

Romanticism movement is well maintained here by Benedikt Franz Hess (1817-1870), Swiss / American, a painter of panoramic landscapes in a detailed transcriptive yet broadly painted style. Idyllic sunset landscape was painted in 1840s in Switzerland. This landscape of the Unidentified Valley concurs with the pastoral tradition, depicting a peaceful scene of meadows and fields bathed in a soft, golden light, and framed by trees that also create a winding movement toward the horizon. Size app.: 25 x 32.7 cm (roughly 9.8 x 12.9 in), frame 34.3 x 42 cm (roughly 13.5 x 16.5 in). Very Good ready to hang well conserved condition with only noticeable craquelure, age wear, canvas relined. Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition. In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 1.2 kg is going to measure some 3 kg packed for shipment. Benedikt Franz Hess was born in Paris and began his career in Switzerland, studying with the Swiss landscapist Charles Louis Guigon. By 1852 he had immigrated to the United States; that year he exhibited seven paintings at the American Art Union in New York. While one of the paintings was a view near Geneva, Switzerland, the titles and descriptions of the others indicate that he traveled widely in New York state, painting in Deposit and Middleport, and rendering the Hudson River north of Newburgh, and the rapids of Niagara.

Windmill and Shepherd Boy Landscape Collaboration Two Famous Norwegian Artists
Located in Stockholm, SE
Сollaboration work by two Norwegian artists: Morten Müller (1828 - 1911) and Olaf Christopher Dahl (1842 - 1895). Painted approximately in late 19th century (ca. 1870 - 1880). The collaboration of two renowned Norwegian artists in this landscape is an example of the fusion of their talent and skill. A very interesting compositional solution, where among the hills buried in vegetation, a lowland with a small pond is depicted, where a young shepherd has brought his cow to the watering hole. In the distance, on the hill, a windmill is visible, creating an emphasis on the perspective and depth of the composition. The nuanced interplay of light and shadow adds of complexity to the scene. The calmness of the pastoral setting below contrasts markedly with presence of gloomy clouds looming above. This juxtaposition creates a harmonious balance, presenting a duality inherent in nature. And this rare and awesome work of art should be considered for museum collection as well. Both painters presented in National Museum Oslo, Norway. Size app.: 46 x 69 cm (roughly 18.1 x 27.2 in), with frame 60 x 84 cm cm (roughly 23.6 x 33.1 in). Good condition with wear, tiny losses to paint in minor areas and craquelure. So it needs minor care and conservation. Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition. In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 4.4 kg is going to measure some 6 kg volume weight packed for shipment. Morten Müller began his art studies with Adolph Tidemand and Hans Gude in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 1847 to 1848. From 1850 he was again a student at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer as a teacher. From 1850 to 1851, Müller painted with the Swedish landscape painter Marcus...

Animal scene Duck hunting with dogs 18th century Swedish Master by Philip Korn
Located in Stockholm, SE
Monogrammed lower left: Johan Philip Korn (1728 - 1796), was a Swedish painter. A beautiful landscape, with a backwater in which carefree ducks swim, hunters and their dogs in passion, in the background you can see a city with a bell tower. Old masters have been depicting animals in their paintings since the Renaissance. In those days, hunting scenes were popular - there is always a share of emotional participation in them. Here it is necessary to understand that in previous centuries people looked at hunting as a means of obtaining food, therefore naturalism dominates in the painting of the old masters. Old oil painting on wooden panel, in a non-original frame of the 19th century. Size app.: 49 x 64 cm (roughly 19.3 x 25.2 in) and nice golden gesso frame ca 65.5 x 81.5 cm (roughly 25.8 x 32.1 in). Very Good condition, age wear, cracks on a wooden board, minor losses, retouches, cleared and conserved. Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition. In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 6.4 kg is going to measure some 10 kg volume weight packed for shipment. Johan Philip Korn first began his career as a decorative painter. He was a student of artist Johan Sevenbom (1721-1784). After further studies he changed to landscape painting in the Rococo style of French artist François Boucher (1703–1770) and often after Dutch copper engravings. In 1759, Korn became master of the Stockholm...

Feeding a Calf Lovely Farm Scene with Redhead Girl mid 19th Century Oil Painting
Located in Stockholm, SE
As we gaze upon this artwork, we are immediately struck by the warmth and tenderness exuding from the scene. The woman, with a gentle smile on her face, carefully feeds the pet calf, while the redhead girl, her eyes sparkling with excitement, reaches out to touch the adorable creature. The artist's attention to detail is impeccable, with each brushstroke conveying a sense of life and movement to the painting. Nevertheless, the beauty of this painting lies not only in its technical prowess but also in the emotions it evokes. Visual research gets us to authorship of Walter Goodall (1830 - 1889) an British painter. But since the painting is not signed apparently – it is hard to state for sure. Antique oil painting on canvas with stamp for 'Brodie & Middleton, 79 Long Acre...
