About the Item
"Evening Blue Clouds" By Carl Grauer
Oil on Canvas
20x20 inches
21 x 21 x 3 inches framed, custom painted white wood floater frame
Signed en verso
Artist Carl Grauer captures the quiet curiosity of the neighbor's living room windows lit up in early evening. Midnight blue clouds begin to dissipate into the darkening sky and the street lights become illuminate in the foreground. Shadows play in the streets and on the rooftops cast by the grid of telephone wires criss crossing overhead. This painted scene by the Kansas native is a point of departure for any number of potential narratives! The painting is framed in custom white wood floater frame that is wired on the reverse for easy installation.
Carl Grauer explores spatio-temporal themes in a new body of work started in the autumn of 2020. Like so many of us on lock down riding out the surges of the pandemic, Grauer retreated to nature near his home and studio in Poughkeepsie, NY. He used this time to slow down and mindfully observe the “minutia of leaves, moving clouds, and the time of day giving up its fight for the night”. Describing a new series of landscapes organized by a grid structure, the artist explains “I paint a perspective that tracks change, point of view, and these fourth-dimensional observations on a two-dimensional surface with oils.”
Artist Bio:
Carl Grauer is a painter based in Poughkeepsie, NY in the beautiful Hudson Valley. He primarily works in oil, painting mostly portraits and figure-based contemporary realistic paintings. He spent two years in London studying figurative and portrait painting with several studios and has garnered success showing work nationally and internationally, including being shortlisted for the Wells Art Contemporary Award in the U.K., exhibiting with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in London, and having been granted several residencies including the Jentel Artist Residency in Banner, Wyoming.

Excellent condition and ready to hang
Painted with the exactness of a still life photograph, this hard edge realist painting by artist Frank DiPietro features a light pink lotus flower, with lush green leaves on a pale grey background. Inspired by close observations of the natural world and encounters with still moments that give us pause. Lines, shapes and colors encountered in nature, reveal the cycles of decay and regeneration that are life’s constant state of change. The work has a quiet, meditative quality. The subject is portrayed in a manner true to their existence in a specific time and place and selected based on considerations of visual relationships to formal elements of painting. Aspects of photo realism, hard edge and color field techniques are utilized to isolate the uniqueness of the subject’s detail, as well as emphasize flatness and illusion of depth within the two-dimensional space of the painting.
About the artist:
Frank DiPietro was born and raised in Scranton PA. He received a Bachelor of Art from Bloomsburg University in 1997, majoring in both Painting and Ceramics with a minor in Art History. In 2000 he earned a degree in Art Education from Moore College of Art and Design while continuing his studies in painting. Frank lived in Philadelphia for twelve years painting and teaching at several museums, art centers and schools in the region. In 2010 he and his family moved to Chester County PA, where he currently resides. Frank currently teaches painting classes and workshops at the Delaware Art Museum and Longwood Gardens...
