Sea Foam is a lovely little seascape full of atmosphere and movement. The artist created the main paint markings by encouraging different tones of blue watery paint to tilt and run horizontally to indicate waves and sea swell. The foam effect in the foreground adds an element of detailed interest while creating a sense of perspective. A hazy headland in the distance creates detail on the horizon to enhance the sense of space within the painting.
Cathryn writes:
I love to create paintings inspired by the stunning Oxfordshire countryside where I live and seascapes from my travels. These are usually enhanced by my vivid imagination. Following A Level I continued to study art at Banbury in Oxfordshire and finally a degree at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in Farnham, totalling six years of art training and many, many more years experimenting. I enjoy the experimental approach of trying out different mediums including ink, acrylic, oil and watercolour. The application of the paint is an exciting experience for me creating interesting marks such as splashes, dripping, masking, dry brushing and palette knife effects. Working in a spontaneous manner, I relish in the excitement of the unpredictable nature of the media I combine. In fact ‘happy accidents’ are a fundamental part of my practise and lead to each piece having its own individuality.
