About the Item
A rare color lithograph by late French artist, Éliane Thiollier. Edition of 275, certificate of authentication is provided. Minor acid staining from the old mat.
Éliane Thiollier studied art at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and, in the 1950s, attended the René Jaudon workshop, where she refined her pictorial technique and began to learn lithography.
Thiollier’s work was exhibited in numerous prominent salons including Moins des Trente Ans, Societe de la Nationale des Beaux-Arts, Automne Independents, Salon de la Jeune Peinture, Galerie Pascaud, Galerie Suillerot, Galerie Vendome, and Salon Comparaisons.
She then left Paris and settled down in the Aquitaine region of southwest France. There, the reds and ochres that came to characterize her palette first appeared. She created very structured landscapes in fine and strong shades.
Thiollier was named General Secretary of Salon de la Jeune Peinture from 1957 to 1964. She was also a member of the executive board of the Union des Arts Plastiques, General Secretary of the Salon du Dessin et de la Peinture à L’eau, a member of the board of the Salon d’Automne, and Curator of the Salon d’Automne in 1987.
Her prizes include: Prix des Clubs du Tableau, Prix du VI Salon International de Vichy and the Salon de la Peinture Taurine de Nimes.
Thiollier died in a car accident in August 1989.
