1930s Zeppelin Over San Francisco Landscape Bright and evocative 1938 painting of burning Zeppelin by Ethel Grace Arpin Harlo Lynn (American 1881-1960). This was original painting was composed one year after the Hindenburg disaster which likely influenced artist to imagine and paint it above San Francisco. Signed lower left corner. Exhibition tag on verso "First annual Art Exhibition of the Physicians Art Association, San Francisco Museum of Art". Presented in rustic painted and gilt-toned frame. Image size: 22"H x 34"W. Framed size: 28"H x 40"W. Painting on a piece of galvanized sheet metal. Born in East Highlands, San Bernardino County, CA on Feb. 13, 1881. Ethel Aplin graduated from Pomona College about 1900 and soon settled in San Francisco. A physician and psychologist, in her leisure she painted landscapes inspired by music. She died in San Francisco on June 9, 1960.
