About the Item
Charming thatched cottages and figure in landscape greenery and blue skies by French/Strasbourg artist Eugene Cottin (1840-1902). Born in Strasbourg, he was educated in the School of Fine Art in Paris and his work was represented in the Kunstmuseum Solothurn. His paintings are generally quite small in size, of farmyard animals and rural scenes. With an almost grainy atmosphere, he paints thickly along green shrubbery and clouds in a blue sky.
Cottin’s work of roosters in a rural setting, same size, sold at Christie’s for almost Euro 3000, (Lot 274 Nov 2005 including premium). He is also known for sketching, cartoons and engraving, appearing in various magazines.
In this work a figure stands in the green landscape with the white cottage angled behind her. Simple yet engaging. Presented in a carved wooden frame. Both the painting and frame are in good overall condition.
6” by 8” panel sight set in frame 11.5” by 13.5”. Minor abrasions along the frame edge on left side.
