About the Item

19th century English impressionist scene of the Barbizon forest, near Paris France, with a river, cows, and trees. Boyle was a pioneering 19th-century British artist inspired by European Impressionist painters. The influence of the French Barbizon school is very evident in his work. This is a rare example of the artist's work as he mostly painted small-scale English landscapes. He often rejected the studio environment to paint ‘En Plein Air’ creating his characteristic atmospheric impressionist studies of the British landscape. This is an oil on canvas. It has been framed in an outstanding Vintage French Style giltwood frame. He is recorded as living in London and had other works exhibited at: Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Society of Oil Painters.

20th Century Oil painting of an Impressionist River Landscape of Cahors, France
By Ken Moroney
Located in Woodbury, CT
20th Century Oil painting of an Impressionist River Landscape of Cahors, France Moroney was born on the 14th of February 1949 in South London. Of Anglo Irish parentage, his father was typical of his generation and worried about Ken’s artistic temperament which he viewed as effeminate. As a result, Ken took up boxing and won a gold medal for South London in his teens. His art continued to flourish with his trademark striking use of color. His main medium oils and he favors romantic subjects of Edwardian times. Ken has traveled extensively and spent 2 years working for major galleries in New York. The Royal Academy nominated him in 1976 as being one of the few promising young artists to emerge this century: "Ken Moroney has considerable talent, any painting purchased now can only be seen as a sound long term investment." Ken Moroney's work now hangs in many important collections and has had paintings exhibited at The Royal Academy (London), and the Kline Galleries (Canada). The painting came from a private collection and previously came from Duncan Miller...

George Boyle Impressionist oil painting, Barbizon School of sheep grazing

A wonderful example of a Barbizon inspired landscape painted by the "Catford Corot" from the late 19th Century. This picturesque view has the typical Barbizon elements with a shepherdess and her flock at the edge of a forest. Beautifully presented in a good quality hardwood frame - a very atmospheric piece in ready to hang condition. George Boyle (1842-1930) A shepherdess and her flock at the edge of a forest Signed Oil on canvas 15 x 18 inches without the frame 22 x 25 inches with the frame George Boyle is perhaps the best known English painter inspired by the Barbizon School. In fact he is known as the "Catford Corot" as his paintings have such a close resemblance to the school's main exponent, Jean Baptiste Camille Corot. The "Catford" element of this nickname corresponds to the area near Greenwich...
