Pink and purple mountains overlook the golden hillside. A brown wooden fence secludes the barn hidden in the trees as three birds fly into the distance. Signed "G. A. Pfister" lower left. Grace Anna Pfister (1883 - 1969) was active/lived in California. Grace Pfister is known for Miniature painter. Presented in a white mat. Mat: 18"H x 24"W Image: 9.5"H x 17"W Born in California on Dec. 11, 1883. Pfister was a resident of Oakland by 1913. A spinster, she died there on March 28, 1969. Exh: Oakland Art Gallery, 1917. This artwork "Sonoma County Landscape" 1901, is a watercolor on paper by noted California artist Elizabeth Hoen, 1868-1955. It is signed and dated at the lower right corner by the artist. The artwork (image) size is 5.75 x 8.65 inches, framed size is 13 x 15.65 inches. Custom framed in a silver decorated frame, with beige matting. It is in good condition, the paper have 3 vertical soft creases that cross the image. About the artist: Born in Santa Rosa, California to a pioneering California family, Elizabeth Hoen was known for her watercolor paintings, many of them landscapes, in impressionist style. Her father, Berthold Hoen started a trading post in the Carillo adobe, the first building erected in the Sonoma Valley. He also helped survey and lay out the city of Santa Rosa. Elizabeth Hoen is not only the first painter to have their work cataloged into the Sonoma County Museum’s collection, but she was also a prolific artist in California in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and maintained a studio during a period when California art was largely dominated by men.
