Indians in a Canoe on Lake Tahoe with Snow Covered Mountains - 19th Century Oil Impressionistic rendering of Lake Tahoe by American landscape painter William Weaver Armstrong (b. 1862 d. 1906.) The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California are the original, aboriginal people of the Lake Tahoe Basin, known as dáɁaw (the lake) to them, a land they've inhabited for millennia, expertly managing resources and using controlled burns for healthy forests before European settlement.
