Biografía de Guillem Roca Sanpere (Terrassa, 1860 - Madrid, 1939)
Pintor y profesor, se formó en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de la Lonja, donde fue discípulo del pintor Lluís Rigalt, que le inculcó el gusto por el paisaje y por la pintura en plein air, según explica Mariona Seguranyes en el libro La mirada persistente. Historia de la pintura en Figueres. Fue pensionado por la Diputación de Barcelona y residente en la Academia de San Fernando de Madrid. Viajando por Europa se interesó por los nuevos métodos de pedagogía artística. Asistió a la Académie Colarossi de París y, en 1892, al Anstalt für die Kunst de Viena. Al regresar a Cataluña, fue profesor en la Academia Coll y en el Colegio Vilar de Barcelona y participó en diversas exposiciones. Fue bibliotecario en el Real Círculo Artístico de Barcelona. En 1895 llegó a Figueres por ser director y profesor de dibujo en la Escuela Menor de Bellas Artes. Expuso varias veces en el escaparate de la ferretería Llonch de la ciudad. Probablemente, una de las obras que mostró es la pintura de grandes dimensiones Mercat de bous, precisamente pintada en Figueres, representativa del estilo costumbrista y realista de Roca Sanpere. En la colección de pintura de Casa Masó de Girona, casa natal del arquitecto Rafael Masó, se conservan seis pinturas del artista terrasense. Se marchó de Figueres en 1904.
