About the Item

Paris: Pont Alexandre III and Place de la Concorde by Henri Miloch (1898-1979) signed lower right on Place de la Concorde, the other is unsigned watercolour and gouache painting on artist's paper, unframed Sheet:: 9.75 x 12.5 inches Two lovely paintings by the highly regarded painter, Henri Miloch. They depict two famous views in Paris and go together very nicely. Place de la Concorde and Pont Alexandre III. Each contains bustling figures and vehicles. The Place de la Concorde work is signed to the front, the other is not signed but both are inscribed to the back with the locations in Miloch's hand. These works form part of a collection we currently hold by Miloch. They are undated but the body of Parisian work we have by this artist was dated in most cases, with this style, from the later post-war part of the 1940's....mainly around 1948. Henri Miloch was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1898 but studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a member of the Society of French Artists. His life and work was very much centred in Brittany, in north west France, much of his work portrays Breton maritime life in the various ports, and local town observations, especially in the Concarneau area where he worked and exhibited for much of his artistic career. From 1959 he also had a workshop in Tours (Val de Loire). condition report: No tears. The top right right hand corner of the Pont Alexandre painting has a shallow fold mark, diagonally, extending roughly 1.5 inches on the top edge and the right hand edge. Once matted and framed this would not be seen. Colour is good, strong, and clear.

Pair of Mid-Century Parisian Scenes Oil on Canvas Paintings Signed C. Burnett
By Caroline Burnett
Located in Dallas, TX
Decorate a study wall or office with this elegant pair of colorful antique paintings! Hand painted on stretched canvas in France circa 1940, each large artwork depicts a popular Parisian landmark in the impressionist style, "la Cathedrale Notre Dame" and "Le Marche aux Fleurs et la Conciergerie". Both street paintings are in excellent condition with soft pastels colors, and are signed in the lower right corner by American artist, Caroline Burnett. Caroline Barnett (1877-1950) was an American-born artist who studied in Paris towards the earlier part of her career; she was known for her Impressionist street scenes of Paris. Her painting style reflected the contemporary movement that was occurring in France during her time there. Caroline Burnett paintings also display hints of abstract influence, especially her figural paintings. She was a member of the Societe de Beaux-Arts in Paris, where she exhibited her works in 1898. Using both light and shadow with skill and precision, she painted cityscapes showing each season in Paris. Though her artwork's value is mainly aesthetic, Caroline Burnett oil...
