About the Item
Along the Maine coast, the surf can be turbulent, the tide ferocious, the skies exquisite, the rocks unyielding. In this original marine landscape you can feel the roll of the waves, hear them pounding upon the rock wall, and actually see the changing colors of the shadows as the sun begins it's dramatic descent. The white of the waves contrasts with the purple sky in fantastic contrast to the multi-tonal stone that both catches the sun and it's prisms and the mossy green penetration of the unrelenting wave action. James McGinley, former chairman of the fine art department of the famed Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art, has painted and shown his work internationally for sixty five years. The slightly distressed gold plein air frame chosen by the artist accentuates the brilliantly executed contrasting shadows upon the rocks. James McGinley passed away in 2021.

James McGinley
James McGinley, former head of fine art at the highly respected Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts was born in 1937 in Jersey City, New Jersey. McGinley has had many periods of work, including Spain and Italy, the southwest United States, the streets of Newark, the New Jersey and upstate New York countryside, Maine and the Atlantic coastline, portraiture, river rocks and others. The distinguished artist John R. Grabach was his foremost instructor and mentor.
