About the Item
This oil on canvas by James Cobb features a stand of river birch trees at the height of fall color with sunlit yellow leaves against the white bark of the birch trees. A sunny blue sky peeks through the top of the trees. The painterly brushstrokes of the artist heightens the sense of leaves moving in a gentle breeze.
James Cobb has worked out of his studio in Norman, Oklahoma, for the last two decades. Until recently he maintained a studio in Taos, New Mexico. His work is executed in oil when painting and charcoal and conté when drawing. He attempts to paint from life and hosts a life drawing session every Friday for artists. Cobb tries to stay true to the subject but is increasingly adding abstractions to his work. He paints all subject matter from still-life, to landscapes, portraiture, and figures.
