About the Item
This oil on canvas painting by artist James Cobb depicts the scenic aspen groves found along the mountainsides in Colorado. Cobb's use of the palette knife helps accentuate the variety in the textures found in this landscape, from the cluster of trees, to the brush on the ground.
James Cobb has worked out of his studio in Norman, Oklahoma for the last two decades. His work is executed in oil when painting and charcoal and conté when drawing. He attempts to paint from life and hosts a life drawing session every Friday for artists around the state. Cobb tries to stay true to the subject but is increasingly adding abstractions to his work. He paints all subject matter from still-life, to landscapes, portraiture, and figures.
