About the Item
A stunning oil painting by noted Scottish artist John Reid Murray who exhibited with The Glasgow Boys in Europe. The painting depicts Loch Lomond in Scotland. Painted in an Impressionistic impasto style with superb colouring, it is a good example of circa 1900 Scottish oil painting. The colours and forms are particularly appealing. It is signed and with good provenance.
Signed lower left and titled.

Condition. Oil on canvas, 20 inches by 17 inches unframed and in good condition.
Housed in a complementary frame, 26 inches by 24 inches framed and in good condition.
John Reid Murray (1861-1906) Born in Helensburgh; died Prestwick. Studied at Glasgow before going to Antwerp Academy with E A Hornel. Exhibited with The Glasgow Boys in Europe. A landscape painter his work is distinguished by the frequent use of heavy impasto with a fine feel for seasonal colour often with extensive foregrounding and low horizon. He gained a gold medal in Munich in 1897 and died before his full potential was realised. He is represented in The Glasgow Art Gallery. Exhibited Royal Scottish Academy 45, Royal Academy 1, Royal Hibernian Society 7, Glasgow Institute 50, Walker Gallery Liverpool 2.

John Reid Murray

A beautiful, large landscape painting, oil on panel, by Scottish listed artist Joseph Milne. The river is the Tay, one of his favourites to paint and the view is from the foot of the tower on Binn Hill with the Fife hills given a little more majesty. This painting is a typical Scottish Impressionist painting with vibrant brushwork. It was painted circa 1900 and is in very good condition in its original frame from W Stewart of Perth. It has various labels verso. Milne exhibited extensively at The Royal Scottish Academy and The Royal Academy. This is a lovely example of an early twentieth century Scottish oil.

Condition. Oil on panel, image size 30 inches by 22 inches unframed, in fine gallery condition.
