About the Item

This lovely Scottish Stirlingshire Impressionist landscape is by noted artist Joseph Morris Henderson. Painted circa 1910 the composition is a river landscape with the river in the foreground and cows in the fields beyond. In the distance one can see some dwellings and hills beyond those, all beneath a summers sky. The impressionistic brushwork and colouring are just lovely. This is an excellent large example of Henderson's work and of Scottish landscape art. Signed lower left. Provenance. Aitken and Dott label verso. Condition. Oil on canvas. Image size 42 inches by 32 inches and in good condition. Frame. Housed in an ornate gilt original exhibition frame, 49 inches by 39 inches and in good condition. Joseph Morris Henderson (1863-1936) - born Glasgow 1863, son of the artist Joseph Henderson by whom he was strongly influenced. Studied at Glasgow University and Glasgow School of Art. His style absorbed much from romantic Victorian realism and he dedicated himself to landscapes, seascapes and coastal scenes. He exhibited throughout his life primarily in Scotland. He was elected an Associate member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1928 and a full member in 1935.
