About the Artist: Jon Blanchette (1908-1987) Jon Blanchette was born in Somerset, England, on March 29, 1908, and moved to Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1918. He showed artistic talent from a young age, studying at the Pittsburgh Art Institute. In 1932, Blanchette and his wife, Jean, relocated to Los Angeles, where he worked at Fox Studios, creating paintings, architectural designs, interior décor, and stage sets. In 1948, he shifted away from commercial work and settled in Aptos, California, where he focused on fine art and began teaching privately. Throughout the summers from 1965 to 1975, he conducted art workshops in Mendocino, sharing his knowledge and passion with aspiring artists. Blanchette, a romantic realist, was known primarily as an oil painter, but his artistic talents also extended to pen & ink, watercolor, and silk screen. He passed away on July 3, 1987, in Aptos, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of fine art.
