DESCRIPTION
The painting depicts a striking panoramic view of Barcelona from the surroundings of Montjuïc, with Tibidabo in the background and the coastal profile bathed in Mediterranean light. The city unfolds in a vibrant palette of warm tones contrasting with the serene blues of the sky and sea. In the foreground, the greenery of trees and cypresses —rendered with dynamic brushstrokes— gives depth to the scene.
Pichot achieves a harmonious balance between nature and urban life, capturing the luminous atmosphere of the early morning or sunset. The composition is structured in well-defined planes, with rich chromatic modulation and a firm execution that reveals the artist’s technical mastery. This work is representative of his mature style, where lyricism, realism, and a subtle plastic sensuality intertwine.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ramón Pichot Soler (1924–1996) was a renowned Catalan painter, grandson of the modernist painter Ramón Pichot Gironès. He began his artistic career in the postwar years, exhibiting at a young age in Barcelona. His work evolved from a realism rooted in Impressionism toward a figurative style of elegant lyricism, characterized by his mastery of color, light, and fluid line.
Specializing in portraits, female figures, and Mediterranean landscapes, he was a sought-after artist of his time, exhibiting not only in Spain but also in the United States (Palm Beach, New York). His works are represented in museums such as MACBA and the Museu d’Art de Girona, which dedicated an anthological exhibition to him in 2007.

Ramon Pichot i Soler
Ramon Pichot Soler (Figueres, 1924 - 1996) belongs to a family closely linked to the arts. His father - Ricard Pichot - and his uncle Luis were closely related to music: the first cellist, disciple of Pau Casals, and the second violinist. Closer to plastic activity is his uncle Ramon, who developed his pictorial corpus at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. Following in his father's footsteps, he began his cello studies, but opted for the plastic arts upon discovering his true vocation. At that time he lived in Paris and there he began his formative stage within the post-impressionist current, a style to which he remained faithful throughout his career. Pichot was twenty years old when he exhibited for the first time. Later, through various exhibitions, he became known both in Spain and in Europe. In March 1954 he exhibited at the "Círculo de Bellas Artes" in Madrid and soon his work would be accepted in the United States, specifically in New York. He exhibited for the first time at the Trosby Gallery in Palm Beach, Florida in 1964 and two years later he exhibited at the Hammer Galleries in New York with great success, which was repeated on numerous occasions until 1981.
