About the Item

Sunrise at Village by River in the English Countryside with Church Spire & Birds by 20th Century British Artist Art measures 16 x 12 inches Frame measures 21 x 17 inches This original painting by Richard Wood captures the tranquil beauty of an English countryside river at sunrise, as the soft golden light gently brightens the landscape. The scene depicts a serene river winding its way past a charming village, with the silhouette of a church spire adding a timeless sense of place. The artist masterfully uses warm hues of gold, amber, and rose to paint the sky, which blends seamlessly into the cool blues and greens of the surrounding trees and meadows. Subtle reflections in the water and the delicate flight of birds overhead add a sense of movement, while the soft, dappled brushwork invites you to step into this idyllic setting. This piece radiates calm and evokes a deep connection to nature, making it a perfect addition to a home seeking to capture the serenity of the English countryside. Its elegant frame complements the work’s timeless charm, making it ready to hang and enjoy in any living space. Richard Wood was born in London in 1950. After leaving school he worked in the Design Department at a Wood Mill before moving to Cornwall to work and study under artist John Miller (1931-2002) in 1974. He has always been drawn to the natural landscape and moved to Lancashire to explore this further, painting the rural scenery in Lancashire, The Lake District and Yorkshire. Richard Wood was born in London in 1950 but in early adolescence his family moved to Wiltshire where he remained until 1971. Throughout his school days he exhibited a flair for drawing and painting and upon leaving school joined an old established Wood Mill as a junior in the design department. In 1974 he was invited by John Miller, ARA, an established landscape painter, to study and work with him in his studio at Sancreed, Cornwall. This was perhaps, the most positive influence on his creative style and was to be a release of energy working with a sympathetic like minded professional. From this period Richard Wood has been a full time self employed artist providing himself with a regular income. He now lives and works in Lancashire, his studio overlooks attractive hills and unspoilt countryside. Since moving to Lancashire his work and style have progressively developed. In the early days he painted marine subjects, concentrating on the Tea Clipper era. However, his studio environment and his interest drew him towards the natural landscape, working through industrial scenes to the capturing of the different moods of the everchanging seasons in a traditional English landscape style. Subjects include extensive work in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the relatively unknown Bowland area of Lancashire. His style can best be described as factual and classical with strong composition, good detail and emphasis on the relationship of trees and skies to the overall landscape. Oil on canvass is his preferred medium with a mix of both bold and tight brushwork. Vintage, 20th Century, Original, Signed, Oil on Canvas.
