About the Item

Winter landscape with snow covered fields & farmhouse in the English Countryside by British Artist Art measures 30 x 20 inches Frame measures 35 x 25 inches Richard Wood was born in London in 1950. After leaving school he worked in the Design Department at a Wood Mill before moving to Cornwall to work and study under artist John Miller (1931-2002) in 1974. He has always been drawn to the natural landscape and moved to Lancashire to explore this further, painting the rural scenery in Lancashire, The Lake District and Yorkshire. Richard Wood was born in London in 1950 but in early adolescence his family moved to Wiltshire where he remained until 1971. Throughout his school days he exhibited a flair for drawing and painting and upon leaving school joined an old established Wood Mill as a junior in the design department. In 1974 he was invited by John Miller, ARA, an established landscape painter, to study and work with him in his studio at Sancreed, Cornwall. This was perhaps, the most positive influence on his creative style and was to be a release of energy working with a sympathetic like minded professional. From this period Richard Wood has been a full time self employed artist providing himself with a regular income. He now lives and works in Lancashire, his studio overlooks attractive hills and unspoilt countryside. Since moving to Lancashire his work and style have progressively developed. In the early days he painted marine subjects, concentrating on the Tea Clipper era. However, his studio environment and his interest drew him towards the natural landscape, working through industrial scenes to the capturing of the different moods of the everchanging seasons in a traditional English landscape style. Subjects include extensive work in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the relatively unknown Bowland area of Lancashire. His style can best be described as factual and classical with strong composition, good detail and emphasis on the relationship of trees and skies to the overall landscape. Oil on canvass is his preferred medium with a mix of both bold and tight brushwork. Vintage, 20th Century, Original, Signed, Oil on Canvas.

Winter Trees at Moonlight at a Village in the English Countryside by 20th Century British Artist, Wendy Reeves Art measures 40 x 20 inches Frame measures 46 x 26 inches (framed in a vintage natural oak moulding with cream insert) Wendy Reeves garnered acclaim for her Scottish Highland and Lakeland paintings. Born in 1944 in Ewell, Surrey, she took to her father Gordon’s craft, deciding early on that she would be a painter. Prior to her famous paintings of the British Isles, artist Wendy Reeves painted scenes from a trip she made to Spain when she was 21. It was during this time that her dream of following in her father’s footsteps became a reality, and when she returned to England she cemented her name as an artist. Wendy Reeves' paintings showcase her talent with natural landscapes and the wildlife that inhabits them. Her work often features ochre and pink lights...

Peter has an absolute love of oil painting and especially admires the masters of Dutch Painting of the 17th Century, which is reflected in his own work. Since 1995, after seeing the work of Estonian artist Olav Maran, Peter decided to review his paintings and started researching ‘Still Life’ painters such as Willem Kalf and De Heem. After experimenting with priming his own panels and canvases with different colours, then painting with thick and thin paint and glazing on top, in the way of the old masters, he has developed a style with detail and atmosphere that is essential in his portrayal of fine wine, fruit and cheeses etc. In a quirky and sometimes conceptual world, Peter makes no apologies for producing traditional subjects where the craftsmanship is evident in every brushstroke. His paintings bring much joy and pleasure to those who understand he has an obvious and underlying love of handling paint and observing his subject using techniques that take many years to acquire. Recently he has changed the view point for some of his paintings, to give them a bold contemporary look. Peter Kotka...
