Ruth Armer
A painter, educator and lithographer, Ruth Armer, was born in San Francisco, USA, in 1896 and spent her career in that city. She attended the California School of Fine Arts from 1914–15 and then again from 1918–19. She later studied at the Art Students League of New York with George Bellows, Robert Henri, and John Sloan. Armer taught at the California School of Fine Arts from 1933–40. Her painting styles ranged from abstract to representational. Armer’s solo exhibitions were on display at the Vickery, Atkins & Torrey Art Gallery in San Francisco, California (1922), the Cleveland Museum of Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (1936, 1939), Quay Gallery in New Zealand (1972), and the Public Collections at the Oakland Museum of California and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
