About the Item

This is an unusual painting of a canyon in the Palm Springs area of Southern California. In the foreground is a blooming native plant, with a nice close up view. Think of it as a portrait within a semi-arid landscape setting. The background canyon is rendered in soft desert shades of pinks and purple-blues. Late afternoon light washes parts of the canyon mountains as it does the upper part of the plant itself. The composition of the work is nicely thought out and the color palette well chosen. Artist Suzanne Dallons signed the painting in the lower left corner. A California native, Suzanne Dallons was born in 1923 and was known to have lived earlier in Los Angeles and then later in Bakersfield and Palm Springs. Around the time that this work was painted, she maintained a studio on Vista Oro in the heart of Palm Springs. The painting is oil on board and measures 12” x 16”. It retains its original period 1960’s decorative wood frame with a linen liner, as shown. The overall framed dimensions are 17 1/2” x 21 1/2”. Both the painting and frame are in good condition, with the frame showing expected signs of age and wear in places. There are no issues to report for the painting itself as it it is bright and clean. This vintage Palm Springs area work is ready to hang and enjoy in your chosen placement.
