In the hills above the coast in the South of France lie magnificent woodlands, full of colour due to the climate in that region. A small wooden cabin with a picket fence has a path leading off into the deliciously scented woods. This is one of a handful of larger works in this collection, and an almost square shape.
This painting is from a small collection of work by the same hand, all on the same canvas-textured heavyweight paper. They were purchased by us in France and the scenes all seem to be be from the South of France and Provence. They very much feel as if they were painted "en plein air" as the artist has captured the scene with a very fresh breezy feel to the colours and texture. All are unsigned, are very good quality by an accomplished hand, bear good bright colour and are very clean. The ideal way to display would be to affix it to board and frame it.
Condition report:
Very clean, stored by the artist for some time we believe. The paint is applied thickly in places, giving a great depth of texture and movement. One small fold to the upper left corner of the sheet.
