About the Item

This stunning gouache painting by Wolfgang Pogzeba (1936-1982) captures the beauty of Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico, depicting a dramatic cliffside landscape with an adobe home in the foreground. Created in 1978, the piece showcases Pogzeba's intricate rendering of the New Mexico desert and the historic Acoma Pueblo, located approximately 60 miles west of Albuquerque. The painting is presented in a custom hardwood frame, with outer dimensions of 22 ⅜ x 25 inches and an image size of 12 x 15 inches. About the Artist: Wolfgang Pogzeba was a German-born painter, sculptor, printmaker, and photographer whose career spanned the American West. Born in 1936 in Planegg, Bavaria, Germany, Pogzeba's family relocated to the United States in 1948, eventually settling in Denver. He studied engineering, architecture, and fine arts at various institutions, including the Colorado School of Mines, University of Colorado, and the Kunstakademie in Munich. His artistic journey led him to Paris, Mexico City, and eventually Taos, New Mexico, where he became deeply influenced by the region's landscapes and culture. Pogzeba was a pioneer of abstract realism, with a unique style that blended his technical background with a profound appreciation for the natural world. His work is held in several prestigious collections, including the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center and the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art. Tragically, Pogzeba's life was cut short in a plane crash in 1982. Despite his brief career, his works continue to be celebrated for their depth, beauty, and representation of the American Southwest. Provenance: This painting is part of a private collection, and it captures the timeless charm of New Mexico’s architectural and natural beauty. 'Landscape Near Cundiyo, NM', by Webb Young, Watercolor Painting on Paper
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This 20.25" x 27.25" watercolor painting captures a winter landscape near Cundiyo, New Mexico, rendered in a naturalistic style. The foreground is populated with dark green shrubs, their colors providing a stark contrast against the white snow. These elements add a sense of depth and dimension to the scene, drawing the viewer’s eye into the painting. Starting in the foreground and continuing into the distance, is a partially visible dirt trail, blanketed with snow. The mid-ground features rolling hills blanketed in snow and dark foliage. In the background, distant mountains rise against the sky, their peaks slightly obscured by mist or clouds. This not only adds a sense of scale to the scene but also creates an atmospheric effect. The sky, painted in light blue hues, suggests a calm, clear day. The overall tranquil color palette balances the more detailed and textured elements of the composition. The painting is encased in a light brown, wooden frame, with a thin white inner boarder, complimenting the natural theme of the artwork. Webb Young (1913-2005) was a renowned artist known for his depictions of New Mexico landscapes, architecture, and people. Young was born in Covington, Kentucky on September 2, 1913, and his interest in painting began at age 11 with art classes at the Chicago Art Institute. From 1925 through 1928, he studied painting in New Mexico under the famous Southwestern painter, Gerald Cassidy...
