This superb Post Impressionist Slade School female full length seated nude portrait oil painting is by female artist E A Jay. Painted in the 1940's, the sitter is a model in a women's life class and we can see a female artist at her easel, the wall behind her covered in daubs of paint. The model is in a relaxed pose and Jay has captured her skin tones beautifully in a palette of muted tones. Her vibrant green shoes behind her add a real splash of colour. A really engaging painting by a female artist of a woman being painted by women.
Provenance. Previously owned by artist's family.
Condition. Oil on canvas, 24 inches by 20 inches unframed and in good condition.
Housed in a complementary frame, 32 inches by 28 inches framed and in good condition.
