About the Item

Hedwig Friedländer was a daughter and pupil of well-known Vienna artist Friedrich Friedlaender Baron von Malheim (1825-1901), she studied also under the professors F. Laufberger and J. Berger at the Vienna School of Applied Arts. From 1889 to 1890 she also was a pupil of Frithjof Smith in Munich. At first genre and still-life artist, after the Munich stay she began to make portraits in pastel almost exclusively. Before all she was known as a portraitist of ladies and children of Vienna high society
