The City of Books shows a map of an imaginary city made up by words: 140 quotations, taken from 40 different books and chosen following the criterion of analogy, give rise to 12 tales that compose the roads of the city. The artwork sees literature cross over into art, exit from books, and is an homage to the transformation process that leads the reader to become author, mixing roles; reading become writing, creating an access between two actions intimately connected. Calvert’s current paintings investigate the relationship between digital media and the reception and perception of images, and utilizes diverse technologies such as fresco, 3D modeling, AI and data manipulation through code. She is especially interested in the evolution of pictorial space. Today we view our screens and the world they occupy as a shallowly layered space of overlapping desktop windows. The picture plane has tilted up again from the flatbed to float in front of our eyes. Calvert’s paintings in turn depict an intermediate space, where the verticality of the still life paintings cohabitate with these digital panes. Dutch floral still life paintings encapsulate multiple concerns. Their subjects were botanical fantasies, emblems of an economic mirage that has contemporary corollaries. Most important to Calvert’s pictorial concerns, they depict ephemeral things in shallow and diagrammatic space - they are all foreground. They contain an abundance of visual information in overwhelming density, creating an allover resolution; a visual field that is equivalent to digital noise. By making painterly interventions into reproductions, Calvert attempts to dissolve the layer between the resolution of the source image and abstraction of the painted mark. ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ Tiffany Calvert has exhibited her work in the US and abroad including Lawrimore Project in Seattle, E.TAY Gallery in New York, the Speed Museum in Louisville and Cadogan Contemporary in London. Residencies include the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, I-Park, and ArtOmi International Arts Center where she received a Geraldine R. Dodge Fellowship. 14th Street (Photo-Realist Oil Painting of Classic NYC Brick Building)
Located in Hudson, NY
Photo-realist oil painting of a classic brick building exterior in New York City 28 x 50 inches, oil on canvas painting Wire backing for easy hanging Unframed with white painted sides This contemporary, realistic oil painting of a New York City brick building exterior was painted by Richard Britell in 2019. Employing his mastery of the troupe l'oeil technique, Britell paints the smooth red colored stone building in extreme detail assuming a three-dimensional quality with close attention paid to shadow and perspective. This building is reminiscent of neo-classical architecture, popularized in the mid-late 1800's and the striking red exterior contrasts against the white stone window trim, further accentuating the painting's troupe l'oeil qualities. The painting on canvas is complete with wire on reverse for seamless hanging. About the artist: Richard Britell, a career painter, studied at Pratt Institute with Philip Pearlstein and Walter Erlebacher. His first show in NYC at Staempfli Gallery was sold out, and reviewed in the New York Times. Britell’s new works revolve around large, dreamy cityscapes tending toward abstraction. The artist currently lives in Pittsfield, MA. Born Utica, New York, 1944 Education 1962 – 1964 Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY 1964 – 1966 Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY B.F.A. 1970 – 1972 University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA, M.F.A. Large Modernist Figurative Abstract Oil Painting BASKET
By Marlene Bauer
Located in Surfside, FL
A Pacific Northwest native, Bauer was born in Vancouver, Washington, and has maintained a studio in Portland, Oregon since 1976. She attended the Pacific Northwest College of Art and the University of Oregon where she received her M.F.A. Since that time, she has exhibited her work throughout the Northwest while teaching art as an associate professor at Marylhurst University. Bauer applies her modernist approach to her artwork, and her paintings become a sort of balancing act in reconciling her subjects and her techniques. Teetering between abstraction and representational, Bauer's houses are depicted as simplified forms, exploiting a universal iconography. The recognizable elements in her artwork – trees, buildings – are unconventionally depicted in wide patches of overlapping color, "pulling each painting away from literal interpretation." Marlene Bauer's abstractions stem from her interest in the visual dynamics of a quick impression of a landscape from a moving car or a glance out a window. The artist has exhibited her work in solo exhibitions at the Laura Russo Gallery, the Elizabeth Leach Gallery (both in Portland), and the Davidson Galleries in Seattle. Bauer's artwork is included in many of the region's public and private collections including the King County Regional Justice Center, Bank of America, the City of Portland, the City of Seattle, the Oregon State...

Still life with basket. Spanish Contemporary Figurative Realism. Oil on panel
Located in Segovia, ES
Still life with basket ("Bodegón con canasto #2"). Spanish contemporary figurative realism. Oil on panel. Dimensions: (H) 61 x (W) 100 x (D) 2 cm. / Inches 24.02 x 39.37 x 0.79 " Framed: (H) 73 x (H) 112 x (D) 4 cm. / Inches 28.78 x 44.09 x 1.57 " The fruits contained in an overturned basket are scattered on the table around an old bottle covered with esparto grass, giving a rich note of color and contrasting textures. The warm light projected on the entire scene, the roughness of the back wall with its shadows, and the brightness of the horizontal plane of the table, constitute the environment of this delicate composition. Juan Carlos Ospina Ortiz (Colombia 1963), practices realistic figuration with themes of clear Spanish influence. The artist settled in Andalusia (Spain), where, searching for his roots, he immersed himself in the music, folklore, and traditions of that country. In his timeless classic still lifes, we can see the influence of the great masters of 17th century Spanish painting such as Zurbarán and Sanchez Cotán.

Ken Orton, "Tonic", Photorealistic Colorful Bottles Still Life Oil Painting
Located in Saratoga Springs, NY
Ken Orton's "Tonic" is a 36x54 original oil painting on canvas. This painting depicts a still life setting featuring multiple antique bottles. The bottles range in size, color and shape, some of which are filled with red, yellow, green, or blue liquid. The artist chooses to paint larger than life still lives, cropping in closely for more impact. Every detail from the reflections on the table, to the illusion of the raised letters on the bottles, is painted masterfully. About the artist: Ken Orton has dedicated his life to painting. His childhood was spent drawing the urban, industrial surroundings of Birmingham, England. At the Birmingham and then Manchester Colleges of Art he studied Art Education and after six years teaching in England accepted an offer to head the arts program at the Joan Miro Centro de Arte of the Baleares International School in Mallorca, Spain.
