Shelf II
Located in CAMPO REAL, ES
Shelf II is a work that reveals the intimacy of a personal space through the representation of a fragment of a bookshelf in the artist's studio. With a vertical format this oil on board captures the essence of family and personal history through the careful arrangement of everyday objects. The composition of the painting follows a pyramidal design that guides the viewer's gaze to the apex, where a solitary wooden pipe stands as a symbol of culmination.
On the three shelves, one finds a variety of items that tell stories. An antique radio evokes times past, while a light bulb suggests the light of thought and inspiration. An antique cardboard box...

2013
oil on canvas
90 x 135 cm
Price:
£8,400 GBP (inc. 20% UK VAT)
Provenance:
Direct from the artist’s studio
Notes:
Kate Brinkworth undertook her artistic training at Nottingham Trent University, and graduated in 2000 with first class honours. She rapidly began exhibiting her work, and her first major solo show took place in 2001 at Britart Gallery, London. Her success led to further exhibitions across the country and abroad, and she began featuring regularly in several international art fairs and won numerous awards. These include the Westgate Prize (2004), and a commission from GUS headquarters in Mayfair.
Kate Brinkworth's painting stems from her curiosity in films, particularly those directed by or in the style of Hitchcock. She is particularly inspired by effects created though experimentation with focus, and repeatedly photographs her still lifes with various shutter speeds, camera angles and lighting to find the optimum composition. Brinkworth's style uses the language of film, advertising and photography to create these unique images; her visits to Las Vegas have developed her interest in the representation of objects associated with vice. Painted in varying degrees of focus, her expert technique deceives the viewer into believing the work is a photograph, due to the realism of her subject matter and style, and the thin application of paint which gives a smooth, glossy finish. It is only on closer inspection that the viewer realises the work is entirely painted by hand.
Brinkworth's works challenge our perceptions of the image; in our contemporary world inundated with visual stimuli, she painstakingly labours over her compositions to make us look at these familiar objects in a new way. In a parallel challenge to contemporary conventions her technique mirrors the Renaissance mural technique of the 'cartoon', a drawing which would be pricked along the lines and dusted with charcoal to transfer the skeleton of the image to the wall. Brinkworth similarly maps out her photographs onto both sides of sheets of paper and rubs the reverse to move the image onto the canvas. Once the composition is mapped out, she begins working into the picture in oil using her distinctive technique.

Two Violet Roses 1974, Op Art Floral Oil on Canvas Painting
Located in Surfside, FL
Lowell Blair Nesbitt is an American painter, draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor. Although he worked in a variety of media and covered a wide range of subjects throughout his career, he is best known for his large, Photorealist botanical paintings.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1933, Nesbitt earned a degree from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University. Later, he also studied at London’s Royal Academy of Arts.
Working in stained glass and etching and also producing abstract paintings in his early career, a 1962 encounter with artist Robert Indiana led him to steer his aesthetic toward realism. Though he held his first solo show at the Baltimore Museum of Art in 1958, it was his 1964 debut at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. that would truly bring him to the attention of the art world. In this exhibit, his botanical series of paintings, drawings, and prints captivated the art world and public alike. The game-changing Corcoran Gallery show would send his career down the trajectory of sustained success.
In 1976, Nesbitt moved from his New York City West 14th Street studio to a massive space located at 389 West 12th Street. The 12,500 square foot living and workspace supplied ample room for creating his enormous paintings (the largest was more than 30 feet long), but it also bragged an indoor swimming pool, a four-story atrium, and a rooftop area for entertaining. “The Old Stable,” as Nesbitt came to call it, soon became a popular hangout for celebrities, dignitaries, and other art world heavy hitters. Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Indiana, Jasper Johns, Robert Motherwell, Larry Rivers, and James Rosenquist were all known to have frequented The Old Stable or to have at least paid a visit.
Throughout his long career, Nesbitt was known as an artist who could successfully capture an array of diverse subject matter using a variety of techniques. Creating beyond his signature Photorealistic flowers and botanicals, Nesbitt produced paintings, drawings, and prints of everything from landscapes to reptiles to electronic components. He is even credited as the first artist to use computer parts as artistic subject matter.
In 1980, the United States Postal Service honored his contributions to the art world with a series of four stamps based on his trademark floral paintings. Another unique honor arrived when Nesbitt became the official artist for NASA’s Apollo 9 and Apollo 13...

Her pastel-on-sandpaper series, "Domestic Threats" and "Black Paintings", both use cultural objects as surrogates for human beings acting in mysterious, highly charged narratives.[9][10]
Rachko also has created a series of photographs entitled "Gods and Monsters".[11] In these chromogenic prints, she is "painting with a camera," creating variations that free the camera from being a mechanical recording device of what lies before it. She prints all of these images by hand.
The earlier "Domestic Threats" pastel-on-sandpaper paintings used her West Village apartment or her 1932 Sears house in Virginia as a backdrop. The "Black Paintings" series grew directly from "Domestic Threats". In the "Black Paintings," the figures (actors) take center stage. All background details, furniture, rugs, etc. have been eliminated and replaced by intense dark black pastel. Each painting takes months to complete as she slowly builds up as many as 30 layers of soft pastel.
Her long-standing fascination with traditional masks progressed in the spring of 2017 when she visited the National Museum of Ethnography and Folklore in La Paz, Bolivia where one exhibition included more than fifty festival masks. The resulting series is entitled “Bolivianos”.[12]
She has also written an e-book, From Pilot to Painter[13] and writes a regular blog, Barbara Rachko...
