House of the Poet 3
Located in Sante Fe, NM
Chaco Terada, originally from Japan, was trained at a young age in the art of calligraphy. When Chaco was in her twenties she had the opportunity to work on her calligraphy in ten countries as a part of the cultural exchange programs, Up with People and The Ship for World Youth. When her time with those groups ended she moved to the United States, where she discovered photography and started incorporating it with calligraphy. Chaco has led demonstrations and has taught calligraphy workshops at the Dallas Museum of Art, The Crow Asian Art Museum, Greenhill School, and Saint Mark’s School of Texas among others. Chaco’s artwork has been exhibited in Dallas, Santa Fe, New York and Los Angeles and Paris. Process Statement My work uses the Japanese and Chinese calligraphic characters that I have practiced since childhood. I take a line from one character, and when that brushstroke is made it tells me where the next one should be placed. This method of working is untraditional. I have found that the details and individual lines of a character are beautiful by themselves. I may use the individual brushstrokes that form a written word, Japanese letters...

Pico Garcez 'Black Ship, Bahia Brazil' - Black & White Photograph
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Pico Garcez (b.1963, São Paulo, Brazil) In Love with Photography, Iconography and Painting, exercises his gaze from childhood when he began to play with his first camera. Practicing freedom of look and intuition, seeking aesthetic challenges linked to the observation of the image in subjects such as: solitude, reflections of emptiness and behavior. Awarded by The Art of Intuitive Photography in NY for 4 times, Pico also find his work in the permanent collections of: The Rio Art Museum (MAR), Museum of Modern Art of Bahia (MAM-BA) and Museum of Photography of Fortaleza among other international collections. Having contact with a work of art has to be transformative. This photographic essay by Pico Garcez leads us to this, puts the gaze, sees and sees in constant dispute. The meaning is hidden and this leads us to be co-authors. In Pico's UNCONSCIOUS-NEST, work is not the aesthetics or the colors that speak the most, instead they fog our critical eye, trying to distract us in the central core of which it treats. It is an experience to observe these images. Pico puts us & leaves us in a void where our own inner solitude surfaces - Not having to share with. Where is life, if not ours? We are part of this work for empathy, and in that, Pico was generous - letting us in. UNCONSCIOUS-NEST is not a geographical place, instead it lives in us and everywhere. It shows what we've done for ourselves - it's a pool without a ledge. – “I can but I will not ... - I am here! I want to die and die where I've touched my heart.” Black and White Ship Photography...

Contemporary Photograph, Armenia photograph, Taller than Fuji, Armenia, Peroomia
Located in La Canada Flintridge, CA
Oh what it’s like to live in the shadow of its “greater” brother… Mt. Sis, or “lesser” Ararat, would dominate the landscape anywhere else… Consider this, Sis is nearly 200 m taller than the iconic Mt. Fuji in Japan. Fuji-San, standing tall on the island of Honshu, is worshipped and revered, but Sis only shares its reverence with Masis, or Greater Ararat, and never by itself. It is the muted autumn to a glorious spring, it is the fading light of evening to the brilliance of the crescent moon, it is Maria Anna to Wolfgang Amadeus… But yes, there are days when Greater Ararat conceals itself in thick clouds it invariably attracts, and then, Sis stands tall and without compare, ever the object of my adoration… Edition 1 of 5, signed by artist. Photograph printed on canvas. Vahé Peroomian is a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Southern California (USC). He received a Ph.D. in Physics from UCLA in March, 1994, specializing in numerical simulations of space plasmas, and carried out research in that field for 25 years before transitioning into a full- time teaching and innovative pedagogy position at USC. Vahé’s love of photography as a child and young adult blossomed into a passion more than twenty years ago. Since then, he has taken every opportunity to pursue his fascination with photography and the beauty of the Gaian landscape. He is a self-trained photographer, and prefers a hands-on approach and independent experimentation with photographic styles and techniques. He has found that the same off-the-wall approach that works in solving physics problems helps him see landscapes in a new light as well. The self-similar shapes in landscapes, and the play between cloud...
