This abstract print represents a geometric composition typical of the artist production: a yellow square represents the perfect synthesis of the author's thought: "my painting originates in my need for light, the light that, unaware of its importance, is timid evidence of my first paintings, the light that over time has gradually become clear to myself and to itself, until it becomes the sole conscious and responsible protagonist of my painting".
Antonio Calderara (Abbiategrasso, 28 October 1903 - Vacciago, 28 June 1978) was an Italian painter. He was formed in the Milanese context, passing from a figurative period, influenced by the currents of the Novecento group, then by the discovery of Piero della Francesca, Giorgio Morandi, Guidi and Donghi, to an abstract one, in line with the research of great European masters, come Albers, Mondrian, Max Bill etc. In the mid-fifties, in fact, he began to distance himself from the figurative painting that had involved the first phase of his artistic life to embrace a more abstract and geometric approach, reducing the use of color and compositional elements of the work. Calderara developed a personal abstract style, linked to light as a key element of her works: "my commitment is interest in light, everything that invades, that destroys everything to be her only protagonist."

Antonio Calderara
Antonio Calderara is a self-taught and changeable artist. In 1954, the study of Mondrian's work led him first to the study of light and then to a progressive loss of the landscape reference, increasingly moving towards an aniconic expressive form that saw him participate in European research, mostly ones of German origin. In his autobiography, he traces the first non-figurative painting to 1959. Calderara spent most of his life in isolation near Lake Orta, most of which he spent wondering about the role of light and color in an attempt to answer the question, what is painting?
