Poster produced for a special traveling exhibition of Klein's work "Yves Klein: A Retrospective". The image featured on this poster is Klein's 1960, 78.2" x 64.88", pure pigment and synthetic resin, pebbles and natural sponges on panel painting "Requiem RE 20" which is within the permanent collection of the Menil Collection, Houston, TX. This traveling exhibition began at the Rice Museum, Houston, TX from February 5 - May 2, 1982. It then traveled to the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL from June 18 - August 29, 1982; then the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY from November 18, 1982 - January 9, 1983; and lastly at the Musée National d'Art Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, France from February 17 - May, 1983. "This comprehensive retrospective of Yves Klein’s career encompasses his earliest monochrome paintings in red, pink, orange, yellow, green, white, and black; the famous blue monochromes, sponge reliefs, and sponge sculptures; the "Anthropometries"; the "Monogolds"; and his late experiments with the natural elements fire, air, and water. Klein’s groundbreaking work, created over only about seven years, anticipated numerous tendencies including Happenings and performance, body art, land art, and aspects of Conceptual art." - The Solomon R. Biography: Yves Klein (28 April 1928 - 6 June 1962) was a French artist considered an important figure in post-war European art. He is the leading member of the French artistic movement of Nouveau réalisme founded in 1960 by art critic Pierre Restany. Klein was a pioneer in the development of performance art, and is seen as an inspiration to, and as a forerunner of, Minimal art, as well as Pop art.
