About the Item

Roberto Fabelo (Cuban, 1950) "Sueño de navegante chino" (Dream of Chinese sailor), 2014 Lithograph and woodblock on hand made paper 130 x 100 cm. (51.2 x 39.4 in.) Edition of 40 Available series number: 2/40 About the artwork: In 'Sueño de navegante chino,' Roberto Fabelo immerses us in a world of dreamlike and satirical elements, reminiscent of Jonathan Swift's work. The composition features a series of characters and dimensions that, although seemingly disconnected, intertwine harmoniously to create a unique visual narrative. The original graphic work showcases an isolated head that appears to float between dream and death. A mermaid, symbolizing the navigator's incessant desire, adds an element of mystery and longing to the composition. A miniature rhinoceros suggests the idea of distant, solid land, while a dark bird waits patiently, perhaps representing uncertainty or hope. The wood-textured printed background adds a tactile dimension to the lithograph, contrasting with the black, defined lines of the main elements. Fabelo's technique stands out for its ability to fuse elements of surrealism and expressionism, creating images that question the fine line between fantasy and reality. Fabelo's work is known for its rich symbolism and its ability to invite the viewer to explore multiple interpretations. 'Sueño de navegante chino' is no exception, presenting a mental landscape where desires, fears, and realities fascinatingly intermingle. This piece is an outstanding example of Roberto Fabelo's talent and his ability to create works that are both visually striking and conceptually deep, ideal for collectors seeking art that challenges and enriches their perceptions.
