About the Item

Artificial Horizon is an Original Etching realized by Herbert Lespinasse (1884-1972). Cover of the book, stamp signature. Good condition included a white cardboard passpartout (35x51 cm). Herbert Lespinasse , born on June 13 , 1884 in Stamford , Connecticut , he died on September 3 , 1972 in Stamford 1 , is an American engraver and painter , living in France. He produced several hundred woodcuts . Influenced by surrealism , the first two woodblock albums were released in 1923 and 1935, and were marked by Breton or Mediterranean maritime landscapes, underwater life, New York , haunted by a fantasy à la Edgar Allan Poe ; the critics of his time hailed his technique with enthusiasm. The first, Artificial Horizons , includes 25 plates; the second, Phosphorescences , 26 plates and a text by Jules Supervielle accompanies it.
