Hungarian Prison - Original Lithograph by Pietro Morando - 1950s
Located in Roma, IT
Hungarian prison is an original artwork realized by Italian artist Pietro Morando (Alessandria 1889- 1980).
Original Lithograph.
Good conditions, except for the pale yellowish stain on the sheet.
Hand-signed on the lower right in pencil and titled.
Numbered on the lower left, the edition of 7/75 prints.
Pietro Morando (Alessandria 1889- 1980). He occasionally studies at the Albertina Academy in Turin; a scholarship (1913) allows him to enroll in painting courses at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. He meets Angelo Morbelli whose studio he frequents and temporarily shares the passion for pointillism. His love for drawing led him to produce numerous works, even using the poor means of luck that the First World War allowed him. He thus realizes tragic war drawings (almost a reportage) which will then be published in the volume "The Giants", with the presentation of the sculptor Leonardo Bistolfi of Casale Monferrato. For decades he frequented the Milanese studio of Carlo Carrà, with whom he shares, as well as friendship, also comparisons and cultural exchanges in the field of painting. It stands out for its simple and incisive style and intense color and decisive features, with which it gives strength and life, but also poetry, to its subjects, almost always the poor people, porters, and peasants, as well as glimpses of his city and Monferrato countryside. He exhibits at the Turin Promoter since 1920 and participates in the Rome Quadriennale and the Milan Triennale. He exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1924, 1926, 1928, 1932, 1934, 1948, 1950, 1956. The exhibitions at the promoter of the fifties were held together with the younger Alexandrian Franco Sassi, a pupil of Bozzetti and a great admirer of the painter in question. Morando's works can be found at the Italian War History...

Little Chinese Girl
By Ming Wai
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork "Little Chinese Girl" 1982 in a color off set lithograph by renown Chinese/American artist Wai Ming A.K.A Lo Hing Kwok, b.1938. It is hand signed an inscribed A.C (Hors Commerce) in pencil by the artist. The image size is 24.5 x 22 inches, sheet size is 28 x 24.5 inches. It is in excellent condition, has never been framed.
About the artist:
Wai Ming, was born in Canton, South China on November 11, 1938, the son of a school master with nine children. Extremely poor as a child, he was raised in Hong Kong enduring many hardships amidst a chaotic environment of war and refugee settlements. Wai Ming's love for art flourished and he developed his drawing techniques without any art education, just painting what he saw. In the 1960s, Ming found representation in Hong Kong and also took the unusual step of opening his own gallery to display his work in. His primary interest being to capture images of life in fishing villages, or 'fish-folk', who have retained traditional Chinese culture, his work was at home with the sensibilities of many art buyers in Hong Kong. Crossing the ocean in his mid-30s, Wai Ming arrived in San Francisco from Hong Kong in 1974. There, he experienced initial resistance from galleries and the official art world for a variety of reasons, but was ultimately embraced by dealer Jack Swanson...

Large Bus by Allen Jones classic British 1960s pop art in bright primary colors
By Allen Jones
Located in New York, NY
This large Allen Jones lithograph is printed exuberantly in primary colors. A swath of bright red brushstrokes represents the side of a bus. In the upper left, small windows reveal the passengers: a woman’s face is cut off above her vampy red lips, and a blue-haired man’s face is hidden. Royal blue fills the upper right corner of the composition, giving the impression of looking up at a passing bus against the cloudless sky. One can imagine Jones was thinking of the iconic red double decker bus the AEC Routemaster, first introduced in London in 1954. In the 1960s buses were a living symbol of familiar and new technology coexisting: as David Bucken put it, “In and around London a midpoint change on a journey might involve alighting from an RT bus, of which production had started just prior to World War II, and getting on one of the sexy new Routemasters.”
In the artist’s words: “The whole problem as a figurative artist was that it was going against the main march of modernism, which was towards abstraction. But here was a way of making the subject you were painting the same as the object you were painting on. By making the canvas a rhomboid, and putting little wheels on it, you have a schematic version of a vehicle, in this case a
London bus.” Jones plays with the space between abstraction and figuration: windowed passengers, elaborated with just a few lines and placed adjacent to a weighty red ground of brushstrokes, easily convey the form of a bus, yet the print also conveys Jones’ visceral, painterly delight in color play.

18th Century Large Folio 39 Engravings by Francesco Piranesi of Roman Sculpture
Located in Rochester, NY
18th century grand tour collection of Francesco Piranesi engravings of Roman classical sculpture. Raccolta di Statue Antiche. Rome, Italy. Dates range from 1780-1792.
39 Copperplate Engravings bound in an Elephant Folio on laid paper, including 4 double page engravings.
This portfolio of copperplate engravings was published towards the end of the 18th century. Together with his father Giovanni Piranesi (1720 -1778), he contributed significantly to the influence of the Neo-Classical style throughout the art and architecture of the late 18th and early 19th century.
Sheet size: H: 24 3/4 x W: 18 in.
Double sheet size: H: 24 9/16 x W: 34 1/4 in.
Francesco Piranesi (Italian, 1756-1810) was born in Rome, the eldest son of Giovanni Battista Piranesi and his wife, Angela Pasquini. He was instructed in engraving by his father, together with his older sister Laura (1754–1789), also a noted engraver by the time of her early death. He was both engraving his own works of art and assisting his father's work by 1775. He then started to study with other experts: engraving with Giovanni Volpato, landscape painting under the German Jacob Philipp Hackert and his brother Georg and architecture under Pierre-Adrien Pâris.
Piranesi accompanied his father on two trips to the ancient Roman ruins in Paestum, Pompei and Ercolano, first in 1770, and again in 1778. In this he was part of a group of engravers which collaborated with Benedetto Mori and the architect Augusto Rosa, considered the inventor of felloplastica, the art of constructing scale models of ancient monuments in cork. Giovanni Battista created a series of preparatory drawings about Paestum, which were completed by Francesco. Upon his father's death, shortly after the second trip, Francesco acquired his father's publishing house and was responsible for printing most of the later editions of his prints.
Piranesi collaborated with the French artist Louis Jean Desprez...
