About the Item

Marc Chagall (1887-1985) - Les Monstres de Notre-Dame Lithograph from 1954. Dimensions of sheet: 38 x 28 cm Dimensions in frame: 53.2 x 43.2 cm Publisher: Maeght Éditeur, Paris. Printer: F. Mourlot, Paris. Reference: Chagall Lithograph [I], André Sauret, Monte Carlo 1960, no. 101. -- A striking lithograph from the sought-after 1954 edition created for Marc Chagall's major exhibition at the Galerie Maeght in Paris. Issued as part of a historic triple number of Derrière le Miroir (Nos. 66–67–68), this work belongs to a legendary moment in post-war art publishing. Artists like Joan Miró, Henri Matisse, Alexander Calder, Georges Braque, Marc Chagall, and others were often featured in these visionary collaborations, which brought original lithographs to a wider audience through the Maeght publishing house. Printed by the famed Mourlot studio, the piece captures Chagall’s poetic universe — a floating world of lovers, folklore, mysticism, and memory. The 1954 edition is widely considered one of the most celebrated, enriched with original lithographs and literary texts by André Breton and Jean Cassou. This particular example shows gentle signs of age along the edges, typical of its vintage, while the image area remains in excellent condition — vibrant, crisp, and full of emotional resonance. The work is in Excellent condition. Fast and secure shipment.
